Actually if you were around then the righties hated Cronkite because his show had segments about Americans getting killed in Vietnam almost every night in the late 60s. Their claim was he was poisoning the US against their patriotic duty to support the USA right or wrong. Very similar argument to Trump today and his fake news claims-when he is really beefing about the news showing the true facts.
