Yeah, you only pointing out people on the other side of the "aisle."

EDIT: PS Maybe shinerburke wouldn't be banned if he didnt' have a childish fumod thing in everyone's sig. And why jpeg and not html for text? If anyone has an example of BBond being a troll I'd like to see it-- he's been pretty well-behaved from what I've seen.

Please PM him those examples.

Actually, I looked for others. I tried to find something in CAD said, because that was the response I expected. I'm sure someone will come along and say something political from the right side. Here, this will make you feel better.

Alchemize: As you can see, this forum is overrun by liberals.

Better?

Regards to the BBond, PM me an email address. Not gonna discuss it, as the mod alluded to :)

Also, the JPG question, I don't know why Shiner did that in jpg. It's in my sig, because he asked me to. Again, any further discussions will have to be private.

Infohawk slips a religious evolution/creationism jab in.
Dave trots out his chatty cathy doll
Barneyfife takes issues with agendas other than his own.
JPeyton talks about polarized america
AnandTechModerator talks about boycotting an election :D

Have any left leaning posters that you actually do respect and look forward to their point of view.
you can point out rotton apples on this forum all day.
if you feel you are not getting intellectual stimultation from the other side on this forum...what do you get out of it?

I kinda wish Passions or someone had come along to post something so you and infohawk could mellow out. Not my fault that this forum is overrun by liberals! There, now I can quote myself...

Intellectual stimulation? I guess, at times. Why do people argue and flame each other over videocards? That's the stimulation you get out of it. It's the heat of the battle, not the objectives of the war :)

That is quite unfortunate that you gain little from disscussoin but an argument/fight. (mods take note?)
If you are going to complain about the rowdy liberals you can at least acknowledge the respectable ones. I have no idea why you are comparing me to info...i dont think my comments are overbearing or extreme.

Does Passions even post here anymore?

I have a humble suggestion: Since the mods that end up policing P&N only do it because they lost a bet with the other mods and owe them all $50 and hate every second of it, why don't they recruit some sensible volunteers from the current P&N crowd? I'm sure there are people around here who feel like they could do a 'fair and balanced' job.

Names some names because we have actually thought of that and those whom we came up with wouldn't want anything to do with this forum.

Well, Stunt if you think I'm a troll and want me banned, just PM the mods, no need to publicly drag it out here. But my point was, if I wanted reasoned, balanced, moderated debate...well, there isn't any such place!

Perhaps I misread your statement. I thought you were saying that I was singling out "leftists posters".

Please re-translate your Canadian-speak:

"Have any left leaning posters that you actually do respect and look forward to their point of view. "
Are you asking are there any left-leaning posters that I respect and look forward to their point of view?

If that's the question, of course. If I wasn't interested in a diversity of opinion, there are other forums for that on both sides of the spectrum.

How about pick 4 people. Give them the right to warn. Make it a "bi-partisan" committee. Make them publicly known. Before a vacation can be issued, a vote must be taken. Tie-breakers are broken by an "official" AT Mod.

Hmmm interesting idea. Unfortunately the Liberals outnumber the Conservatives by a wide margin so they would always dominate those votes.

It's quite childish to want to argue for the sake of arguing.

Do we really need MORE moderation? I think if you have to choose between too little and too much moderation I'd go with too little.

P&N is ten times better than chaotic hell holes like yahoo news or usenet.

Oh and I think I could moderate fairly if there were more written guidelines. :D Laugh if you must...

Where did I say that? I said sometimes I get intellectual discussion. More often we get battles. That's just reality. That's politics.

Also...i think it is all relative.
for me...i feel the forum is very conservative...americans tend to have much more faith in free market economics than canadians.
your democratic party is still quite right relative to our progressive conservative party on such issues as economics.
what you think is even discussion is not even discussion for those from europe or canada.

But...that's why i come here...i like to understand some of the reasonings behind the right agenda and mindset.
PS here in canada i am a red tory meaning a left leaning progressive conservative. Although in the US i believe i would be a "liberal fvcktard"...something allong those lines :)

hehe

seriously, this is not going to work, people are going to scream from both sides that he did say that and yadayadayada

75% of my posts used to be in P&N, now I hardly post here anymore.

it is interesting to see however as an European how polarized the US is nowadays
P&N is for 98% a liberal<>conservative<>religion flamefest. The other 2% of the threads is general flagwaving and general Europe and French bashing

my 0,2 eurocent

Another with an agenda :D

But yah, guidelines would definitely help. Writing those guidelines would be a pisser...

I would ask some of you to draw up the guidelines but then I would feel extremely guilty if they weren't used as I would hate to waste anybodies valuable time.

I like that idea because it seems sensible, however I'd be willing to bet that there is a need for quick and definitive responses and the commission idea might take too long before a response was metted out. I'd like to propose that since the current cry seems to be that the current enforcement is slanted too left, that the current mods recruit someone sensible from the right. Or at minimum a moderate, should one really exist around here...

I would name names but I don't want to do it in public.

My suggestion for a simple rule would be to strictly enforce the "no personal flames" and beef it up a little:

No personal flames. You may not directly attack another poster. You may however, attack a poster's idea. You may also personally attack public and political figures, ideologies, religions, systems of thought, etc.

The advantage would be you wouldn't have to gauge "how bad" a specific attack was. Like "f u mofo your mom sux c****" and "you are stupid" would both be against rules even though "you are stupid" is really tame. One tricky spot might be inferred attacks. Such as "Are you gay?" A lot of people would see this as an attack vs. just a simple question. I think here the mods would have to exercise some judgments to see if the question was at all related to the previous posts.

I would just outright ban allegations of troll. I've seen other forums do this. It works nicely. If someone really is a troll, they can complain to the mods.

One thing that would require more thought would be allegations of hypocrisy. In one sense they are ad hominem but it also serves as a type of "you are inconsistent" argument and I would probably allow it.

See any problems with my rule (besides it might take some fun out of P&N)?

Well, that's why they should have the ability to warn, but not vacation. For example:

Scenario 1)
Extremist-left-winger posts some nasty F-bombs, tells right winger he has no testicles
Gaard, the esteemed new semi-Mod warns ELW "That kind of posting violates the rules, cease and desist"

ELW continues with these types of posts, it goes to the vacation comittee..

Scenario 2)
Extremist-right-winger posts a suggestion that african american left-wing politician should be assassinated. "Real" mods step in and immediately vacation ERW because he violates an "immediately actionable" offense.

And so forth...

Basically you do have the ability to warn. You can PM a mod. Both of those would be events that would trigger a mod response.
