This has to be one the dumbest posts I've ever read...

So, when did you stop beating your cat? :D
I have to ask you... what are you even talking about?
The first line was sarcasm. The second line is a parody of your attempt to preemptively squelch disagreement with the bolded part of your post.

Politics is not sunday afternoon tea. I can't think of a time when it ever was. It can be vicious nowadays but we aren't all that special when compared to thousands of years of political history.

I assume you're still confused. I'll try again. The way you stated your argument was in a manner such that if anyone disagreed with it, they are wrong.

Generically, "This is what I think and if you don't agree, you're wrong." - in one fell swoop. Pretty efficient for you but not very conducive for discussion.

OT is moderated differently that P&N...get over it!!!

I notice you post similar things in just about every thread in this forum. While that's certainly the most stress-free way to handle it, voicing concerns and displaying problems can make the forums better for everyone.

Also, as someone's sig almost-says, we're all customers. It's our policy to bitch. :p

are we customers??
None of us are paying anything for the priveledge to post on this website.....

What's funny about this thread is that it already sliced into party lines.

PJ (rightie) posts his opinion, then ericlp and uberneueman (lefties) jump in on him, then Red Dawn (leftie MOD!) jumps in about PJ, then jbourne77 (rightie) jumps in to defend PJ, then spittledip (leftie) generically calls for PJ to be banned, then I (rightie) got bored and posted this.

Classic P&N atmosphere!

This is often a topic of discussion by the moderator group. It's tough to know where to draw the line, and no matter where you draw it someone's gonna be unhappy. I'll point out we now have others complaining about over-moderation in OT.

BTW: I'm speaking only for myself as a moderator in P&N and not in any official capacity.

I don't think there should be different standards for different forum sections. Why should people be made to be more civil in one section than another? People get heated about all types of disagreements. Think of what video would turn into if it were not heavily moderated? As silly as it might seem, people feel as strongly about Nvidia and ATI (AMD) as they do about politics. But somehow the mods are able to "help" people to stay somewhat civil there. If it can be done in one forum section, it can be done in another.

There is an untruth that many people believe, and has been mentioned in this very thread a couple of times already: that people of differing opinions in politics cannot talk civilly about politics: therefore, just let it be and let people say what they want b/c it will just descend into filth anyway. Is that really the case? As I pointed out before, there are many posters in P&N who consistently are able to post without becoming offensive- people from all sides of the arguments. If many can do it, what prevents the rest?

I wasn't calling for PJ to be banned. I think the only time I have called for a ban was on Wreckage :D

p.s.- I am moderate, not left.

I think you're confused now. I understood what you meant.

I also understand that no matter what I say someone is going to mock it, defeat it, twist it, or anything otherwise, to suit their own agenda. Some of you are very seasoned at doing this. ;)

Have a good night. (No hidden agenda there) :D

The measure of P&N can not be gauged by its atmosphere, but rather by its success.
I would venture a guess, that among all political forums, the statistics would show that the Anandtech political forum atmosphere is exactly where it needs to be.
If you don't like it, stay out!

So, you equate the situations where a father has a son in a war about which the basic premise is disputed, and whether you and JoeVideoBlow agree on which new gpu is best?

I think you'd be hard pressed to give many examples of posters who are actually expressing deeply held opinions and aren't at least pissy if not down right aggressive sometimes. I'm not going to go back through your posts, but if someone was, what would be found? No offense intended, but I keep thinking about rodney king.

Jeebus, you're awfully sensitive. Mocking you was never my intention.

And, you're right about the seasoned seasoning others. The great thing about p&n is that not only are people allowed to express thoughts and feelings maybe never before expressed, is that everyone, including the most seasoned, gets caught sometimes. No one is immune. In the process of this expression, some people's thoughts and feelings about issues have been known to change or be clarified. This can't be a bad thing.

It's all good ;) I just think it's funny that Mosh made a few rather benign statements, yet someone still finds a way to take issue with it and twist it into something it's not ... hence, the signpost comment ;) .

Another enjoyable morning of people arguing, thanks. I'll check back tomorrow. I expect another page or two of meaningless arguments for my amusement.

Hey if you enjoyed those meaningless arguments you should head down to P&N, ti's full of them
