Would this RPGs be compatiable with Win XP? Just want to confirm, since I couldn't play some of my older games on newer OS.

fallout II is native to windows 2k so should work with xp. Fallout one may be compatible out of the box, if not there is a workaround posted on the net- I've used it successfully on win2k.

Wow, memories. I never finished the game, in fact I think I lost the CDs. I think I still have the save files...

I really liked that fantasy RPG. I don't think any other brought the same fealing as that one..... But then, I don't play them anymore. IWD, I thought was really just so, so compared....

Another nod to 3 of the best games ever. Not to mention 3 of the only games I've played 3+ times. Here's hoping that Fallout 3, if there is one, lives up to them.

Side note: I remember using a boot disk to boot to DOS to play it, mostly because I didn't trust the Win95 version (on the same disc), or Win95 in general. Guess that shows my age. 😉

A lone vote of dissent here, I thought PST was overrated. It had very high production values, the voice work was fantastic, a good story, but it was just a game about running errands. All you do is go here to get this for this guy, then go there to get that for that guy. I know that RPGs aren't about combat, but at least give me some, and even though I love RPGs, but this ain't in my top 10. But I give PST major props, and I can see why so many people like it.

But don't get me started on Baldur's Gate. My brother bought that after all the rave reviews and tried it, hated it, gave it to my other brother. He tried it, hated it, gave it to me. I tried it, hated it, and it's been sitting on the shelf ever since (all 3 of us are huge RPG fans....and huge nerds.....). Total play time between the 3 of us is under 10 hours...it was that bad. I personally know about 10 people who have played Baldur's Gate, and exactly zero liked it. I have no idea how that game sold more than 20 copies. Fallout 1&2 were fantastic though.

I guess I should add that I encourage everyone to try them for this price. It's way too low to pass up if you haven't played them yet.

Silly me, I bought it....... Got fallout too. Heard good things, 2.99 isn't a big loss if I don't like it.

There is a fair amount of combat, just not every few steps like a Final Fantasy game.

You forgot to mention that they also did a great job on implementing the idea that your actions control your alignment, years before SW:KOTOR and Fable. Your character starts as True Neutral and can end up as anything from Chaotic Evil to Lawful Good depending entirely on your actions.

Like Fallout, there were also several different ways to finish the game, leading to different endings.

Odd. BG1 was weaker in story than Fallout 1-2 and PS:T but still a lot of fun to play through. It's considered one of the better PC RPGs, so you and your friends are in the minority for this one too.

Not that there's anything wrong with that 🙂

anyone know how to make PST to play at 1024x768 or higher if possible. I really want to play this but the low resolution turn me off. I know there's a conversion mod that enable high resolution for Baldur's Gate 1. If anyone know please let me know. Thanks.

Very true. I just didn't find the game compelling enough to play through again for another ending. KOTOR on the other hand I've played through thrice. Fable I haven't tried. That's XBOX right?

Well, at the risk of sounding like a person with no attention span 'a la' a Diablo-esque RPG player, which I don't claim to be, part of the reason I didn't like BG was that your characters hardly advance. That's part of what I didn't like about PST either. When I play a game I like that idea of advancing character abilities and items. A compelling story helps, but I want my character to advance regularly, get new abilities, and enrich the ways in which I can interact with the environment and other characters (both in combat and out). BG and PST had that, to be sure, but not enough for my tastes. IIRC, you finish BG at about level 7. That's very lame.

Yes, I haven't played it myself, but all the commercials push alignment as a key feature of Fable, just like KOTOR I & II both did.

I found out from reading the old Interplay forums that PS:T has some very different paths through the subquests in the games, for example a Chaotic character can work their way up in the chaotic faction by pretending to be a loyal member of one the good factions.

That's a valid point, though there was enough upgrading through items to keep me satisfied in BG1.

PS:T offered a much higher max level than 7, but I forget what it was. It had good selection of spells and items, so combat definitely changes as the game goes on.

thanks op got both, back to oldschool I never got around to playing, after disappointment from the likes of the pirates! remake some finely aged rpg should be like chicken soup for my gaming soul.

PS:T also has some good voice overs. Too bad that it never sold well for who knows what reason, it really was a great game. Anyone recall Ignus ? 😉

I wonder if these games work on XP though? Or will they have to be run in compatability mode?

Burrrrrrrrrn.

Dak'kon was interesting, but quiet. He did have about eighty pages of dialog if you started to explore those discs on his person.

Just FYI, I've played all three games right out of the box on XP recently. Just get the lastest patches, and all three should be practicly bug-free.

Im in the middle of torment right now (got it from a fellow AT member in the FS/FT) great story line alhtough the magic system is a bit weak (nowhere to rest...spells are "meh")

Love these games. The Fallout series is second to only Baldur's gate. I wish someone would continue with this genre. Anyone know where to get a copy of Icewind Dale HOW cheap. Its the only module I'm missing.

Bethesda, the people who make the Elder Scrolls series, bought the Fallout liscence. They are currently in pre-production of Fallout 3, although who knows if it could even touch the obscene awesomeness of the first two.

BTW, FO1+2 is sold out.... sucks, I would've bought a few copies just to spread the pure joy of playing those games through.

NOOOOO WHY DID THEY HAVE TO SELL OUT?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fallout 3 was around 3/4 of the way done when it fell out so they shouldn't have a hard time finishing it. Wish I had a friend with the CDs though 🙁

For whatever reason, they've scrapped the old code and are starting from scratch... Dunno why...
