Final fantasy is totally different IMO, plus you can take one game (i.e. ff7 was my favorite) and its totally different from another (ff8 wasn't nearly as good). But comparing stories, torment and fallout are much darker than anything in ff series. Also, the level advancement in torment is totally different from anything in ff, since it follows d&d (the older rules, cant remember which ones). Fallout 2 (only one i played) has the deepest character creation and development of any of the above rpgs. You don't pick a class per se, but you pick abilities (skills) and special "perks" to customize your character, as well as customizable stats. So the way the game plays depends totally on how your character was created, whereas in ff the story is basically linear, with pre-generated characters (not that there's anything wrong with that, its just different). So, it depends on what you're in the mood for; ff=more linear, torment=still linear but more ways to handle different parts of game, fallout=least linear (so much so that i didnt know where to go next at times). end of lecture
