**SOLD** I'll let everyone know if another one frees up. Thanks.

I've got an extra one of these if anyone is interested. My cost plus shipping. I've got a great eBay feedback rating and am a verified PayPal seller. PM me if interested please.

<< For those who haven't removed the plastic cover over the screen....DO IT! It takes two minute. Just press in the plastic tabs on the bottom of the frame, and the wood frame comes off, and the plastic comes right out. For some reason they used an etched piece of plastic, which degrades the image very significantly. I guess they thought it would be anti-glare. I removed it and left it that way. Others might want to use a clear piece of plastic or glass instead, although I don't see the point. You can always put the plastic back if you don't like the result.

Otherwise, this is a great product. I'm almost hoping the one on fleabay doesn't sell so I get to keep it.

takes actually 5 seconds once you know what you're doing :)

wouldnt get much $$$ for ebaying this, maybe like, $15-$20? anyways, the full intention of buying these were for its purpose, and i LOVE mine!!!!!!! :D :D

also, anyone hack it so that it would run w/ just batteries?! that would be SOOOO cool

it would take alot of batteries! 7.5V at 1.5A

say an AA battery hold 2000mAh (generous i think)

1.5 x 5 = 7.5V

10Ah / 1.5 = 6.6

even at 100% efficiency 5 AA would last about 6 hours

that is some fuzzy math, but still

Got two for gifts. Pulled them out to make sure they worked. The look pretty good. Will have to take off the glare screen and clean them out before giving the away. The interesting thing is that the frames are a little different. On one frame "Kodak" is etched/routed in the lower right corner of the frame. On the other there isn't anything. Wierd. I guess I'm going to give the Kodak etched one to a fellow geek, and the plain one to my mom.

you might check to make sure the 'kodak etched' one isn't a networked one. just guessing though.

I couldn't decide about buying this item until I saw a Kodak digital picture frame at Costco. I was excited and then found the Greeks was out of stock. Finally, thanks to this board, was able to place an order a few minutes ago. Thanks. I think this is a great deal and a great product.

I know this doesn't add to the hot deal, but I figure we've got a built-in usergroup of 1000+ so ...

Has anyone found a program that will successfully reduce a picture's resolution to 640x480 AND still be able to be read by the Kodak frame? I've tried several programs (ACDSee, PictureIt and some others), and every time I reduce the size to 640x480, the picture becomes unreadable by the frame (looks fine on the computer). I noticed that all the programs leave the original 2400x19xx size in the EXIF info ... is that what's messing up the frame? And how do I fix it?

If anyone has a surefire method for resolution reduction, I (and possibly other users) would love to have you detail it here.

Thanks.

Just pulled out the one I am giving to my girlfriend, and pulled the plastic out - what a HUGE difference. Bad product design by Kodak - putting that crappy plastic in that really messes up the image.

Oh well... now I know. :)

mr. clunk, have you downloaded the trial of paint shop pro 7 and it's "jpeg exporting" feature (in the file menu)? i don't have this frame, but it's (psp7) the next best thing to photoshop--even surpassing it in some ways
good luck

For reducing to 640x480, the best program I've found (an d I looked high and low) is irfanview
irfan
It's really good since it allows batch resizing (just resized 6000+ pics...) and allows some simple enhancements like sharpening, etc...It's always a good idea to apply some sharpening (8/10) to resized pics.
The quality is WAY better than ThumbsPlus for instance.

Anyone know how to program a "random" function in there ? It would help with the 6000 pics stored on my 340mg microdrive) overkill I know, but I only rarely need it in the field !

Thanks guys, I haven't tried either of those two, but I will. ACDSee did a fine job of batch resizing, but the Kodak frame didn't like the result (looked fine in any editor that I tried).

As I mentioned early (come on...read the thread!)
on in this thread...Use PhotoExplorer. It
does batch resizing, does it RIGHT and CORRECTLY passes on the
EXIF info...It's the only program that I found that did everything
and did it correctly...

Thanks BeBumblebe, IrfanView converted to 640x480 in a heartbeat and the Kodak frame liked the result! Is there an option in there to generate the thumbnails (to make picture sorting easier)?

Kwaddude, sorry, I thought that I did read the entire thread (don't take it personally). I'll also give PhotoExplorer a try (although its not free like IrfanView). Thanks for the suggestion.

Aha! Found your reference Mr Kwad ... it was buried in the 5th bullet of your well written treatise on page 3 (I read part of it, but bailed around point 4 and skimmed the rest). I will give Photo Explorer a try now. Thanks again.

Edit -> You da man, Kwadman. PhotoExplorer batch-resized whilst keeping thumbnails intact. My search has ended.

<< I fixed the firmware upgrade file, it was corrupt. FIRMWARE >>

Hi Rally1, the new file looks the same, in "File Properties," as the old one...same size etc. I downloaded my first one on Tuesday 12.11.01. Has the file changed since then?

Thanks.

Be sure to use "resample" when downsizing pictures (with any program) rather than "resize"... ThumbsPlus should give similar results as irfanview (I use both). Also make sure you are saving with similar jpg quality settings. If there is some option in irfanview that gives noticeably better downsizing, I'd like to know about it ;-)

someone downloaded it, and said it was corrupted. I put another copy up there. Did it work for you?

Rally1,

No, I have not tried either one. I'm waiting for my frames to arrive and just want to be prepared in case they happen to be of the "network" variety.

dealster - try it for yourself but Thumbplus 4.5 gives really bad results when compared to irfanview even using resampling. It beats me, but that's what my eyes tell me !
