Isn't hygiene reaching a majority of Anandtech users one of the signs of the Apocalypse? - M4H

What percentage of American born males are circumcised shortly after birth?

60% (it was an answer to a cranium question when i was playing the other night)

Huh. That seems rather low to the numbers I was finding a few years ago.

it doesn't hurt. babies don't have enough nerve endings there yet to feel anything.
then again adult circumcision...now that's bad.

You really have no clue what you're talking about, do you.

Go pinch a baby and see if it cries. WTF? They can't feel? Just because they don't remember it later doesn't mean it doesn't hurt.

I love how people call this ritualized mutilation. I think it makes them feel so enlightened and better than everybody else.

I think wearing pants and underwear is a ritualized disempowerment of the human body...you SAVAGES may wish to engage in this barbaric practices if you like, but I, for one, am entirely too intelligent to partake in such backward behavior.

OK, explain how it isn't ritualized mutilation.

I'd be interested to hear this also. There are no major medical benefits and the "dangers" of being uncut can easily be sovled by simple hygiene.

This myth was dispelled years ago . . . that's why the standard of care since the mid-90s was to use local anesthesia for circumcision.

The unkindest cut produces lasting impression
TORONTO, Feb. 28, 1997 - Male infants feel pain during circumcision and they remember that pain six months later when they receive their routine vaccination, according to a study led by Hospital for Sick Children (HSC) researchers.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"This study demonstrates two important findings," says Dr. Koren. "It shows that infants do in fact feel pain, and that their pain is not short-lived, as previously thought. Consequently, adequate pain relief should be routinely used during circumcision and any other medical and surgical procedures where pain is possible."

Medicaid stopped paying for circumcision two years ago and many private insurers no longer pay for "cap cuts". At $120 or so for 5 minutes of work, few hospitals are discouraging circumcision and many families are just paying the out of pocket costs to make their child look like dadddy . . . which is the most common reason cited. There is a measurable benefit to males under the age of 2 but I believe it disappears afterwards.

While children are definitely NOT "little adults" most of the basic rules of anatomy and physiology are roughly applicable. Hemorrhage, hyperthermia, hypothermia, and iatrogenic pain require intervention . . . regardless of age group.

Im glad i got circumsized...it'd jus look plain ole ugly if it wasn't. I know girls think it looks funny if it wasn't either.

Circumcised or not, human genitals aren't exactly pretty. Why do you think they call it "bumping uglies"? Anyway, I've had partners both ways, and I didn't find uncircumcised to be any less attractive.

Well, considering that you could be having better sex, I'd take foreskin and be happy.

god you are an idiot. i prey you never have kids.

I'm all against circumcisions. there is NO real need to have it done. long as the child learns proper hygiene then ti should be fine.

If its a ritual thing, I understand but just hack there own son b/c they dont want him to look like their father is ridiculous.

Amen to that!

<-- Quite happy😉

And if the girl you're with is shallow enough to care then I think there's gonna be a lot more problems then that. Think of this. There is also such a thing as female circumcision. Google it and tell me why male circumcision is any less cruel. And, it is a common practice in many middle eastern countries. Maybe it'll be the next rage in the states
