The cheap inkrite (and other generic) cartridges can be a big problem. I only use genuine carts, but then I also print many photos and stuff (and my parents help pay for carts, since they print more than I do), so the quality of the cheap refurbished carts just doesn't satisfy. 🙂

I suppose if I had to pay the entire cost of the cartridges myself, I'd learn to live with lower quality and buy generic also. 😱

If you don't print alot of photos, but I guess you do by your post, a laser is MUCH cheaper than ink jet for day to day printing. I get 20,000 sheets from a cart that costs $100. That comes out to about $.005 per sheet! Plus the printer is an 18 ppm unit(fast).
Not complaining, just my .02.

I'd love to have a laser in addition to my inkjet, as it would really help with ink costs (my dad prints tons of news articles and stuff, that he never reads again - what a waste of paper - but that's a rant for another day), but good lasers are quite expensive. 🙁

I paid $250 for my Lexmark 1855 on Ebay with about 130,000 pages printed. This is about 4 months of the expected duty cycle of this printer. It works perfectly and I have even bought a duplexer for it so I can print on both sides of the paper, and save paper...!
