I find that I can't really disagree with this. We must not forget that every human being has dignity and value.

You're kidding right? Stalin? Hitler? Mao? Pol Pot? Those pieces of shit are dead and the world is a much better place for it.

I believe that many of the grievances of OBL and AQ are legit, but I don't see much dignity or value in the life of OBL.

That is how I felt initially. It can be difficult to avoid devaluing others in your own thoughts and actions. But in the end, it is what separates us from those like him.

not exactly. Obama returned this to the priority list the day he walked into office. He focused on Afghanistan and Bin Laden.

Bush told everyone that Bin Laden was not his priority. He pulled otu when they had him. Iraq was his priority before 9-11.

Look, I give Obama credit the same as I would Bush for it happening under their watch, but its not like Obama is over in Langley everyday in the CTC unleashing his stragery.

umm I have to disagree with this, killing a man who has been doing his best to kill every man, woman, and child in this country dosent make us bad people. I dont think there is anything wrong with not having respect for the lives of people who dont have any respect for the lives of others and has done his best to end them. This guy is dead and the world is only a better and safer place for the honest and good to live.

he said he got the intelligence that he wanted last week.

authorized the action today.
They have been working on this since last August.

I bet they were waiting on a picture to show up or someone to see him in person before giving the okay.

My guess is that we have been watching this house for weeks or even months waiting for a peek of him.

I am sure we will get all the details in a few days.

While I generally agree that should not deter us from pursuing the appropriate course to stop said others from causing further damage. If they are killed in the attempt I'd consider that a cost of doing business in this case.

Live by the sword die by the sword.

Just read a helicopter was lost in action during the raid. Downed from apparent ground-based fire.

It looks like it wasn't just an "in and out".

Dead but not forgotten. OBL, and more importantly his movement, has reached mythic Saladan proportions due to evading USSR twice and USA twice who are the largest most powerful military in the world. Not only evading and escaping their grasp for 30 years when they had him cornered (tora bora), he fought along side the martyrs, forsaking vast fortune for God, and is inspirational to those of lessor wealth (just about everyone). Good luck with killing the movement. It's about like squeezing Mercury.

boohoo, Captain Bringdown!

Agreed. He wrote his name on that bullet on 9/11. The thousands of people he killed sure as hell didn't. This doesn't make you a monster for realizing it.

From what I've seen, it was a Pakistani Army helicopter. No word on whether it was connected with the raid.

As far as this thread:
I wouldn't say I'm elated at the news. More like satisfied. This shithead had this coming for a long time.

As for trying him: why? He's already admitted to his crimes on video and he would never get a fair trial in the US if you were looking for that ideal situation.

yeah, before the speech, news was reporting that it happened a week ago.

Obama said the first credible intel on his location was in August. Then, last week, he felt that it was actionable intel. then authorized the action this morning.

They need to stop with the V-E or V-J day comparisons. Yes, this is important, but it pales in comparisons to those days.

Party pooper. Its not like we manage to kill crazy mass murders bent on world domination every day. There just aren't that many left who are crazy enough or have what it takes to do more then kill the locals.

They say Pakistan wasn't told until the operation was well underway. That says alot about US-Pakistan relations.

Why should we be friendly with Pakistan? They're a stones throw from becoming the next Mid-east despot.

If we told Pakistan sooner, they'd probably have warned Osama.
