They need to stop with the V-E or V-J day comparisons. Yes, this is important, but it pales in comparisons to those days.

Its true its only symbolic, but its still big news and shows that were moving forward in the war at least in some way. We have had nothing else to celebrate in the wars, even the huge move of troops out of Iraq didnt get much attention.

Where and when did we get the DNA to compare it to?

I'm not a truther, or anything, I just seriously question where and when we got this DNA.

some of Bin Laden's family lives in the US. They are wealthy SA citizens. many of them quite respected.

there is no way in hell that we haven't had Bin Laden DNA for at least 2 decades now.

I am glad that the USA got him and congrats to Obama for getting it done.

What was he supposed to do? Put everything else on hold while he obsesses about Obama and micromanages the military?

I'm sure Obama didn't either. You give the military their orders and let them do there job.

That's a strawman answer. Of course you don't put everything on hold. You say the same thing Obama said. It remains a priority for the US. More important to come from Bush.

Probably not, however it is hard not to take some small satisfaction in putting this shitbag in the ground.

Indeed, though as I said before.

Can we do something more than just "burial at sea"??

Or can we at least run him through a meat grinder as we dump his carcass off the end of the ship???

:)

stuff his corpse and make a punching bag out of it and put it in the Smithsonian or something, like Americans take out our frustration on it for the next 20 years.

I got it now, my first response was a knee jerk. It makes sense that we took his family's DNA to compare it to. I was just surprised that we had DNA to compare the body to, but facts have swayed me.

I know, surprising someone in P&N accepts facts, but it happens.

Yeah, I can get behind that. I can't imagine there are many Americans on either side of the isle that are upset that OBL is dead right now.

Upset? Perhaps not quite the right word to use. More like saddened. Here's an example of what someone would think from my twitter feed:

I'm pro life. I'm for all life. I don't want to celebrate the death of a human person nor forgot the tragedy of 9/11. Have mercy on us, ...

I find that I can't really disagree with this. We must not forget that every human being has dignity and value.

When somone has no respect for the dignity and value of the lives of others, I have a hard time having any respect for them.

Nah...

1. The American attention span won't last past the end of the week much less into 2012
2. This is the result of a 10 year manhunt.

I'm glad BL dead but this issue will have little to do with Obama keeping/losing the white house next year.

Now if he keeps scoring head shot after head shot and the rest of the wanted folks out there start falling, that's a different story.

not exactly. Obama returned this to the priority list the day he walked into office. He focused on Afghanistan and Bin Laden.

Bush told everyone that Bin Laden was not his priority. He pulled otu when they had him. Iraq was his priority before 9-11.

Dead but not forgotten. OBL, and more importantly his movement, has reached mythic Saladan proportions due to evading USSR twice and USA twice who are the largest most powerful military in the world. Not only evading and escaping their grasp for 30 years when they had him cornered (tora bora), he fought along side the martyrs, forsaking vast fortune for God, and is inspirational to those of lessor wealth (just about everyone). Good luck with killing the movement. It's about like squeezing Mercury.
