The year 2000

142mph

3am, sober, long stretch of I-5 between towns. 5-people in the car.

Car felt stable but when I noticed red marker lights in the distance, being a slow traveling semi truck, it took a long time to scrub off the speed and get back down to 65mph.

Exactly.

Exactly both of you are morons, who will end up killing somebody innocent.

Race somebody on racetrack?

Are you sure you're not from Iowa City. You don't "sound" Cedar Rapids

I'm not exactly sure due to speedometer error, but indicated speeds of:

191 MPH on a slightly modded 2004 Kawasaki 636. Had powercommander, intake, and full exhaust. But that's it as far as performance mods go. I was bouncing off the rev limiter in 6th gear and couldn't believe it. She was up for more but the gearing wasn't! :D

186 MPH on a 2006 Yamaha R1. She was screaming to 186 and then just stopped. Some say the government put restrictions on the newer liter bikes.

I haven't topped out my 2007 R1 yet. Dunno if I ever will.

~140 mph in the Jetta, 3am on a long stretch of highway. It was fairly stable, but still scary as hell.

You probably were doing 60. :p

Apparently you've never driven a Crown Victoria. The police package cruisers have some serious balls and still ride smooth because of the weight.

No one here has been "racing" someone at the time, and indeed in almost all cases it's been on an open, empty road, where they were endangering no one but themselves.

Your average cellphone talker is more dangerous on the road than someone who speeds when there's no traffic or curves around.

QFT. I was playing keep up with another modded Mustang when I saw 140 on my speedo and it was around 6:30AM on a Sunday morning on the 15 freeway between Escondido and Temecula...a very lonely stretch of road at that time of day...on that day of the week.

When I took the Lotus to 120mph I was coming home from Orange County at 2PM on a Friday afternoon the day before the Christmas holiday. Traffic was very very light between San Clemente and Oceanside and I found myself in a very wide open gap for about a mile or so. Literally 4 lanes of freeway and not a single car...I just had to open her up.

You would be correct, I've never driven a Crown Vic. Aren't those police cruisers limited to 120mph? I'd bet a Lotus Elise feels a lot better at 120mph than a Crown Vic. Up that to 150mph and I'd bet that you'd be squinting to even find me...if you weren't too busy trying to keep that tank on the road. ;)

Yes, but my knees don't touch my chin in a Crown Vic.

I reached 108 downhill in this 2004 Expedition... Floated all over the place and honestly scared the shit out of me since it was only a two lane backroad.

I'm 5'11" and my legs were perfectly stretched out in the Lotus. If you want to complain about the Lotus, driving position isn't one your strong suits because the driving position is damned near perfect. If you are going out for a drive and want to enjoy the interaction between driver and car you aren't going to find a better street legal car than the Lotus Elise.

I was passenger in a '97 mustang GT modded out, we pegged the speedo past the 145mph mark at 2am on the northwest side of Beltway 8 in Houston on a long stretch.
I have hit 120mph in my Mustang GT but its governed at 120mph due to factory wheel and tire combo.
I have hit 140+ in a 93 RX7 I couldn't see the exact speed on the speedo from the passenger seat but it was a nice smooth ride.
I have hit 130+ in a 94 or 96 Supra it was a high school friends.

On some of these posts, the top speed isn't even fast for Houston, we drive 80-90mph on a daily basis on the freeways.

EDIT: Oh, and didn't feel that strange or anything. Wasn't scared until after I did it and really thought about it. When you are going that fast, you don't have time to think. If you think you're dead...That's a hell of a gamble with a $9000 bike....lol

I'd be more worried about my life than the bike. ;)

Fastest I've gone personally is only like 102-103mph, but I've been a passenger at ~120.

About 145mph in a modified '83 Mustang GT. My '05 GTO feels like it will easily beat that, but the fastest I've taken it is about 130 so far.

My Camry tops out at around 125mph. I discovered this on a straightaway at around 2AM on a 55mph highway.

160 mph in an Audi TT on my way back from Norway to Belgium. I wasn't breaking the law since it was on a german Autobahn. I was in the right lane, feeling like I was driving really slow...

Scary thing was that I got used to it pretty quickly and not really aware of the speed I was driving at.
