I have had response take 3-6 months. And then companies wonder why they have to pay outrageous fees to headhunters to get qualified people. Qualified people will not sit around waiting for the systems to get back to them.

Best bet is to do some legwork and find out who the hiring manager is for the slot.
Contact him directly and explain that you are interested in position xyz and have already processed your information into the Lockheed system.

That system is like many within large companies, works great in theory, however, seems to have a open circuit when it comes time for communication.

QFT - HR tends to be a black hole at alot of big companies. Whenever possible, submit your resume directy to the hiring manager in addition to HR. Hard to do if you're working blind off a jobsite or such though. I gotten calls back on some resumes 6 months after I submitted them

Lockheed will take a while to respond, they come to our University's job fair all the time and people won't hear from them for a month or so. Anyways becareful working at Lockheed, it will be very boring and I hear they lay off a lot of ppl too. My roomate did a co-op with them and they just had him doing power point presentations.

Hi everyone.

I just got laid off at my job yesterday and could use any help finding a new one. I worked as a network administrator taking care of 3 windows 2000 advanced servers, and about 30 client PCs mixed 2000/XP pro. I custom built every computer except the servers which were already there when I was hired there. I was also the webmaster and I did programming with html and php. I also wrote interfaces for the website to pull data from the SQL 2000 server like stock availability and pricing. I'm bilingual, English and Spanish. I was doing this for 4 1/2 years so I have some good experience. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm looking for something in the chicago area, preferably in the northwest suburbs.

Thanks.

Currently seeking a summer marketing/market research/product mgmt. internship at any technology firm, preferrably consumer-focused rather than B2B (I've already done B2B tech marketing before, looking to broaden my horizons.) I am a first-year MBA at the Simon School of Business (University of Rochester) concentrating in Marketing and Competitive & Organizational Strategy.

I'm an electrical engineering student at the University of Texas at San Antonio. I'm interested in an internship for the Summer of 2006 (1 year away) in the field of computer security or bioengineering. I know it takes a while for security clearances to pass, so I figured it would be good to apply early. If you would like my resumé, please PM me.

I'm 40 and have been employed in some form of I.T. since high school. Full time when in college and since. The best advice I can think of for the next generation is to pick up shovel. Learn a trade. I.T. is NOT what it used to be. Support is moving overseas faster than you can believe. For the smaller companies now the I.T. talent pool is overflowing and getting bigger everyday. We are currently getting hundreds of resumes for mid-level admin or tech work ($35k) many from people who WERE making close to or over six figures. On the other hand, if I want someone to paint my house, fix a drain, or power wash my house, I need to call 12 people, 5 will call back, 2 will show up to look at the job, and if I'm lucky one will take the job. Good luck to you all. Sorry to wiz in your Wheaties.

fully agree there....i slowly also tend to say that looking for other alternatives than IT should always be an option and does NOT have to be boring.....i personally know many who came from IT (former programmers etc.) and are now pursuing jobs as firefighters or CSR or whatsoever.

You could also mention that eg, a plumber can make a HELL of a lot of money. There are plenty of tech/support jobs who pay barely $30k....while a simple fixing of a drain, "simple" plumbing job can *easily* be good for a $400. They make almost as much as doctors :)

I also have some other nice examples:

Guy at work who was a satellite dish installer, made a HELL LOT of money, he made six figures in 6 months....other options would be jobs like cable installation etc., something which is still kind of related to IT but, then, at the end. may be at least as rewarding (moneywise and job-wise) as sitting in front of a PC the whole day and messing with SQL statements for a ridiculous salary. (And, btw, back in the 80s and 90s i considered everything related to programming etc. "interesting" and my dream job - but (over the years) realizing that it is rather boring and often NOT rewarding in many aspects.

If i am looking today then its usually something flexible like a mix of tech support/software/hardware whiz which might involve various tasks and not just stupidly sitting on code or something similiar.

Keep the options open !

I just graduated in December with a BS in CS, and am just a few classes shy of also having degrees in IS and Biology (environmental science). Classes and on-my-own experience in C++, VB (6.0 & .NET), Java. I've also worked every summer for the last three years, and also last fall, for the IT Helpdesk at school. I would prefer a job in / around the St. Louis, MO area, but I would be willing to move if need be.

Three months later, and still looking. Not even a callback for anything I've applied for yet :(
