Just picked this up today. My first tower defense type game and its pretty fun. Was looking for a game that doesn't suck up a day just to play and this is shaping up to be a nice distraction.

Anyone play this on a lappy? I don't want to download it again before getting feedback (nearing my DL cap for this month - 60GB limit sucks). I have a i3/370 + 1GB ATI 5650 discrete unit on this laptop so I am thinking it should play okish at low/med settings at 1366x768?

you can copy it from 1 pc to the other, no need to re-download. just put it in the same folder on the laptop that it is in on the desktop and you should be good to go.

if you can bottleneck the orcs to a wall with 3 tar pits and 3 wall blades (upgraded) in a row you can't lose, even on nightmare. You need the wind belt though and possibly frost ring.

Yup bottlenecking is the key, more important than actually killing to be able to maintain control. I guess exception would be trying to 5 skull everything where total time is important, but generally creative use of barricades and tar can seriously bog down a horde of any size.

An easy one, with horde flow from right to left:

wwPPPww
__TTT
__###
_#
wwwwww

P = wall pusher
w = wall
T = tar pit
# = barricade

That gets a horde pretty much going in circles, with the occasional leaker (usual a dog thingy) and orgres to deal with. Throw some floor spikes on the dead-end portion on the bottom to cut 'em up.

On Lunch Break I did a modified version of this right where the long bridge ends (two push pads on the wall facing the bridge exit) that caught both horde paths and turned that level into a relatively simple game of kill or blow back the leakers as needed.

Couple things:

1) Achievements for this game either aren't working properly or I'm not understanding what a "trap" is. I beat one of the first maps with just archers and the wall spears and didn't get the achievement for using one type of trap. Are archers considered a trap?

2) there is one level where there are two door on either side wall, a large green pit and stairs on either side. Place as many springboards as you can and watch the fun. Upgrading the trap physics (Using Elemental) lets you fling Ogres into the pit as well. Pure fun just watching all of the orcs fly through the air.

Have you tried beating the stage with only wall spears or just archers?

Playing through nightmare right now, about halfway through the game. Only complaint is I really wish that you could start the level when you want to in nightmare instead of it instantly starting once you select your traps.

I don't understand how your method works. How does that make them go in circles?

the dead end in the lower right of the diagram as the orc come from the right (as mentioned above the diagram).

The orc can not get through, so they walk back a bit and try again, proberly getting stuck in the same area again.

Thanks man. Worked like a charm. Game plays great on the lappy.

Hey maybe too much Warcraft2 in the day, but these Orcs sound very familiar... did I hear them say zug zug?

Did they fix the "Failed to initialize engine" problem on machines with switchable graphics? I had just been disabling my Intel integrated when playing and that works, thank you steam forums, but it really has turned me off of giving the developers any money until they fix it.

I enjoyed the demo and hope they fixed the issue so I can enjoy the rest of the game without having to constantly disable and enable the device..

Sounds like it is likely more a driver issue than a game issue... which sucks given the epic slowness with which laptop graphics drivers are usually updated.

Just finished it last night, had to play the last couple levels on apprentice to feel them out.

I think this game seriously needs a wave by wave rewind... and the ability to create a "default" loadout for a given level from the campaign screen or something. Redoing the same twenty clicks at the begining of each level gets to be a pain. The counterstrike player in me would at least appreciate a "rebuy from last round" hotkey :)

Not so much go there as get shoved there. They are smart enough to pick the open lane, but the wall pushers will keep on pushing them over the middle barricades into the dead end lane so they'll have to backtrack around to open lane to try again. Tar on ground in open lane slows them down enough so can't get thru without one of the pushers catching them for the shove over. In the dead-end lane you can set up a pretty sick killing field since wall, ceiling, and floor are available for traps.

You can make similar "hardly anyone gets by" setups with swinging mace, tar, and four barricades too but you need a spot with appropriate ceiling.

My lappy doesn't have switchable graphics, just a cheap $300 Gateway job with ATI 5650. Works well enough for this type of game when I am bored but it wasn't meant to be a gamer laptop. Sadly I finished the game on easy level - that was a bit too easy me thinks. Are there new maps on Nightmare mode or just a rehash?

Downloaded the demo and it wasn't bad but it didn't suck me in right away. Maybe I need to put some more time into it. Only other TD game I've played was plants vs. zombies so I don't have a lot of experience with them.

What I want is the ability to have endless waves or orcs on any given level. That way I can see just how crazy of traps I can build. And I love seeing the carnage.

Survival mode! I know what you mean... you get near the end of some levels, you've got a nice trap setup and are close to buying a new weaver power up (like zombies)... and then it's over.

Still a fun game.
