Honestly I'm surprised it's taken this long. Stopping illegal immigration was the #1 thing he was elected to do. Even though he's largely been "successful" in reducing the key metric of illegal encounters at the border to the lowest it's been in 50 years (i.e. people are too scared to come here) all of that has been overshadowed by the ICE DHS campaign of terror against mostly law-abiding immigrants, people of color, and cities run by Dem mayors in blue and purple states. It's gotten so bad that he's LOSING support for his aggressive immigration agenda, even amongst Republicans and Independents who voted for it.
Well, nominated. Who knows if he'll accept. Is he dumb enough to move from a safe seat he can hold for life to a temporary job that will put him in the limelight and the hot seat when Congress flips in 10 months?
