For that kind of cash I can get an Opteron 244 and Run it in a two way dual CPU set up.

This deal is stone cold. For $138.34 I found the same 144 at http://www.dreamhardware.com/products/details.php?product_id=407176

And on the same site I found an Opteron 146 if 152.39

What the success rate for running a Socket 940 244 in a Socket 939 motherboard? ;)

you want to use a 940 cpu in a 939 board? are u stupid?

Don;t even try that, some might say take one pin out so you can use it with 939. That is the most stupid thing i ever heard.

With the 1000 stock fsb of the Opteron 144 939 pin, does the fsb typically oc to 2000 fsb? I'm asking because I notice that the Athlon 64 is 2000 fsb. I want to be sure that the Opteron's when overclocked (e.g., to 2.4 ghz) perform equal to or better than an equivalent Athlon 64 at 2.4ghz.

Also, does anyone know if any special ram is required for these other than Dual Channel DDR?

ANY socket 939 does NOT require special RAM. only the socket 940s need to have regitstered RAM, no restrictions for 939s.

as for the FSB question - im more than sure that you have the right idea.

Maybe all these other firms (Monarch, TankGuy, etc.) should buy up these opterons from Zipzoomfly! You know, seeing as the supply's drying up and all with AMD stopping production of the boxed version. They could sell them for $250 each in month or so;)

That's a cold deal. That's about $70 more than how much they get them for. It would be hot if they put down a good stepping for it.

I overclocked mine to 2.8GHZ last night after a week of having it and running it at stock speed. First i tried with ASROCK Dual SATAII i would like to say it is not a good overclocker as anandtech said in their review.
That board has the hardest BIOS i have ever seen. Then i swap it into my old time favourite brand MSI NEO4 PLATINUM SLI Motherboard and changed the FSB straight to 312 = 2.8ghz
3 X HTT
PQI Turbor PC4000 @ 500MHZ = 3-4-4-8 = 2.8V
NF4 = 1.65
Vcore = 1.55

looks good to me and then i tried with A-DATA PC3200 all slots full 4 X 512MB = 2GIG

3 X HTT
133 memory in BIOS @ 400mhz
FSB = 312

I am going to update my results, as soon as i do more testing. I am really busy with the final exams.

I was being sarcastic...with all the talk about the supply drying up, etc.

Ordered from ChiefValue for FedEX and Opteron 144 CABNE 0544 just arrived!

Are you going to test it soon?

Just tossed it in a Jetway A210GDMS Pro mATX with onboard ATi x300, and only 200 watt power supply. No problem running it up to the boards max of 300MHz FSB.
