I have been spending the last six months collecting the parts for my next pc. I had stopped shopping around back in November as I had to start thinking about others' gifts and also I didn't want to spoil my own wishlist, so I had to wait to see if Santa was bringing me a proc and memory.

Got the RAM I wanted for xmas, so after the holidays I resumed the chase for an A64 deal....and stumbled into the opteron craze. I have a "hanging" order at buy.com for a 146, but I think I got into this a little too late - don't think that it's gonna pan out there or anywhere else.

So, I'm grabbing a 144 - Tankguys is sending it tomorrow....

Great buying experience, btw. Cancelled my order at mwave and went with them for $10 less (I think I literally bought the last one). They really seem to be on top of it with constant updates on their site and with the direct communication here about the stock situation.

Kudos, tankguys!

Damn I should just order that thing and deal with getting a new mobo, PSU, and video card later. I would prefer a 146 over a 144 (they are about 200mhz apart, but the max overclocks seem to be about 200 mhz apart). $181 is a good price, and yes atacom is good.

a lot of reviews i've read have said that they were good in the past but are pretty bad nowadays, esp with saying they have stuff in stock when they don't.. google up some reviews before buying, i say

Their resllerratings pretty much spell out exactly what mase is saying. Lifetime rating 6.49, six month rating 1.11. Read the reviews, many are mentioning items showing in stock but getting cancelled orders.

I just wanted to bump this thread to let you guys know that Mwave have the Opteron 144 back in stock for $179.99. It's under the "Bargain Basement" section, and listed as "While Quantities Last", which I take to mean that they will not be getting any more.

I contacted Monarch and asked if they would let me pay for a combo but they send me the unopened boxes and I would assemble it myself. They refused. So, I took my business somewhere else! I did not want to get opened boxes for the motherboard and CPU. How would I know that they are not returns?

Just to let you guys know, I bought one from Mwave figuring it would be the best I could find this late in the game, and I ended up receiving a CAB2E 0546FPMW. I haven't had a chance to test it yet, but I hope I have as much luck with it as some of you.

I have that exact chip...and so far it is up to 2.5 on a K8N Neo2 AGP with stock volts. I might be able to get it further, but I am perfectly happy where I am.

Only info I can see on the Biostar site says "AMD Athlon 64 x2 (dual core), Athlon 64 FX, Athlon 64 and Sempron processors". Curious if anyone has put an Opty in my mobo.
