Newegg price is up $10 to $175. Chiefvalue still has it at $165, and still ships via fedex.

Wouldn't that mean you ordered two 144's, and it's a one per customer thing. Did you wait for confirmation of the cancellation?

I've been out of the computer building business for a couple of years. My preliminary research indicates that this is a great cpu. If I were to purchase this cpu today, what motherboard would you recommend? I'm looking for stability with decent (but not necessarily the best) overclockability, with onboard sound, and PCI express capability. I'd like a machine that will last several years, so I intend to add a fairly good video card (with PCIe do I can upgrade) and 1 gig of ram. The machine is actually for a relative who knows nothing about working on computers, hence the need for stability.

Thanks in advance. I know my request doesn't add much to the hot deal, but perhaps by the response we can identify a hot deal motherboard to go with this hot deal cpu.

TIA

well, i ordered one. on a whim. i've been thinking of building a new computer recently (i'm typing this on a 2.5 year old compaq 1.3 ghz centrino notebook), and i got sucked in by the hype. i probably don't have the money to build a new comp right now, but what the hey...right? hopefully this cpu will will still be somewhat nice six months from now when i can afford to get everything together...or at least a far cry from a 1.3 ghz pentium m w/ radeon mobility 9000 graphics.

we'll see what stepping it is when they ship. if they do in fact ship.

Damn, I checked out Monarch a couple days ago and I could only find socket 940 chips. Now that my newegg order is at stage 4, meaing i can't cancel, I see your link. I guess it's not the first time I wasted $15. :|

Edit: OP, it'd be helpful if you updated your post with links for mwave, monarch, newegg, and chiefvalue.

and the pic shows the CABNE stepping which is supposed to be the best, IE: same stepping as the FX57.

damn this is tempting i paid $216.00 for a 146 retail box a month ago, and it would not do 2.8ghz stable, damn cabye stepping.

I may have to jump on this.

Monarch has the 148 Retail for $227. I picked one up last night.

Edit : Price is now $238.

That is almost $50 more than 144, but you will get 400mhz more also.

curious, why won't stores be getting anymore?

more importanty would be the cabne stepping, i beleive they all do fx-57 speed with stock volts, some where there is a fx-57 next to a 148 and the steppings are identical????

I received my Mwave 144 today.

CABNE 0544 EPMW

Looks like it's one of the good ones. :) Unfortunately I won't get a chance to try it out for a little while yet as I'm still purchasing components for my latest upgrade.

Thanks for the heads up kamranziadar!
