I'm glad I ordered this when it was still 148. Looks like demand is driving these prices up up up.

Lots of Socket 940s available...

According to rumor, AMD doesn't want enthusiasts to have them for their home computers since people are getting kick-ass overclocks out of them. If true, these very well might be the last of the Socket 939 Opterons available to the general public through legitimate retailers.

best steppings are

1. CABNE most all do 2.8ghz on stock 1.4volts core
2. CABYE most do 2.6ghz on stock 1.4volts core, some will do 2.8 or more with more volts
3. CABGE 2.4 on stock volts, amybe 2.6ghz if your lucky, probably not much more.

this is just from what i have read on the net and the several i have owned and tested.

Looks like the mwave 144s are all gone. As well as Newegg and ChiefValue. The only place left that I see is Monarch and I don't think many people will want to pay $200 for one.

I will take that rumor with a grain of salt. I doubt that AMD is worried about a small portion of enthusiasts overclocking these procecessors. They have no way of knowing who is going to OC. But the online shops know these are a hot item and I expect them to charge higher prices when they get more stock.

Actually, the "rumor" is highly likely. I've posted on it a few other places. The manager of Opteron sales at AMD called me a few days ago and confirmed that retail shipments will stop once currently supply is exhausted. There will likely still be some OEM versions that will filter through the grey market, but expect large retail sales to stop.

Anything is possible, but I'd put money on this being true at this point.

"Well I had a 939 motherboard so I pulled one pin out of the chip but its DOA and didn't work, I need a nother one."

omg... :Q my heart stopped for a minute there. I haven't checked this thread in a few days, and I read what you all said about Monarch not having 939s, and doubted myself for a second, thinking I _had_ bought the 940 socket in my rush to get it before they jacked the price up.

Felt like a complete moron for a moment, because it came in the mail yesterday, I thought how in the hell could I have missed the "940 socket" bit when I ordered it, _and_ when I was taking pictures of the stepping last night. Well, after sprinting across the hall into my room and grabbing the box, I can sigh in relief, it says 939. Hehe, I knew all along... But seriously, I was scared for a second there, thought I had done something incredibly stupid after having researched for months and months... :) Ahhh...

BTW, it was a cabne 0544 EPMW stepping, fingers crossed, hoping for at least 2700Mhz. the rest of my parts come in the mail from Newegg sometime next week.
