I've been using Opera for awhilt now, updated to 7.5 and love it. The customizability of all the menus and the mouse gestures makes surfing so much more convenient compared to IE. For those who use firefox and have tried opera, why do u prefer it over opera? And vice versa for the Opera fans.

What engine does Opera use to render pages? Proprietary, I would think, right?

*btw*, been on 7.11 for awhile now.
*edit* just moved up to 7.23 - this is pretty cool. I've already noticed some cool functionality.

It seems like Opera has everything firefox has plus more, to get that you would have to add extensions onto firefox. I know 7.5 has IRC features which is really handy. Plus im also using opera's email program that built into this.

I tried Opera, kinda tough to explain the difference in the way that they rendered the pages... but Firefox just felt like a more solid browser

Like the pages themselves look different? Or is it only "feel"

Opera had a small memory leak (7.11, at least), and also had problems with lagging my entire comp when it was downloading sites with lots of images (as in 2-3mb of images or something like that), the latter of which IE didn't have problems with.

We'll see how 7.23 does.

Opera's ok, I've never used Firefox.
I don't like its tendency to use all my available memory though, and the ads on the menu bar are annoying sometimes.

From what I see the new opera has a smaller footprint than IE. Plus you can get rid of the ads by "purchasing" the software.

Opera all the way. :) Firefox is too messy with it's plugins, and everything in Opera is very nice. Ooh, 7.5 out? *me gets

Oh, ok. I haven't taken the time to upgrade in a while. I would "purchase" the software, but every now and then there's an ad for something I might actually want, like this one. :p
