Opera 10.6 Arrives With More Speed, New Malware Protection

Awesome I love Opera it comes with everything I would install into Firefox built in.
No-Script is built in.
Adblock is built in
WoT is built in and even improved in the new 10.6 release

Combined with the alleged speed increases of Chrome its such a phenomenal browser. Hopefully the success of Opera Mini on Android platforms will help get them some more users of their wonderful desktop counterpart not to mention get some people to start fixing their sites to render correctly within Opera instead of avoid standards and making it render correctly in Chome FF and IE only.

Opera really needs to allow addons like Firefox so we can use all the greasemonkey scripts. I know that won't ever happen but one can dream! Imagine if Opera and Firefox joined forces! They would be unstoppable!

The one thing that is most amazing about the company Opera is how fast they can release new versions. I don't know how this Norwegian company does it but kudos to them!

giving it another shot. I try to give it a fair shake. Especially since firefox has some nagging issues.

Well this built in adblock sure isnt blocking any ads. Wish i could just google ad block and hit add to opera and it would work...

I like opera though and the mail is actually pretty nice

You can save a premade .ini file that will block ads similar to the subscription lists in adblock for Firefox. Alternatively you can build your own list by right clicking anywhere on a page and selecting block content and click on the ad to have ads from that provider blocked. This will save any ads you add to a .ini similar to the list I linked.

Also to enable noscripts except on trusted sites go to menu settings preferences. Advanced then uncheck Enable Javascript.

Then on sites you trust right click edit site preferences in the tab scripting select enable javascript and refresh the page.

thanks i will try that. So opera is blocking some ads?

I really like opera now lol

cool that file worked. Now what happens when the ad block is blocking something it shouldnt? This happens sometimes in FF and I am able to disable adblock.

Just right click select Blocked Content and it will show the ads its blocking. Just click on them to allow the ad or whatever it is blocking to be shown.

I didn't know that. Thank you! Wow, this browser is just getting better and better. I've been using it side-by-side with FF and I find myself spending more and more with Opera.

It feels quite a bit faster than 10.5x. Is it just me or does anyone else feel the same? Especially after blocking banners using "Blocked Content" per site.

When I swapped from 10.5x to 10.6 Beta there was a noticeable speed increase for me but I've used Opera exclusively for a while now so its not something I can compare to other browsers.

And I'm glad you guys enjoying it.

Downloaded and installed it just to see what it's like, first 30 minutes of browsing have been awesome. I've yet to look into ad and script blocking though.

Yaay,, 10.6 released? but my opera did not alarm for any updates. Be careful guys, its beta. Last 10.5 beta had hell lot of issues. Although turbo boost functionality is not good but I can say, opera is best browser(booohh!! firebox 😛 )

It is final 10.6. Do check your auto-update again or just download the installer. Happy Opera 🙂

Fartfox is a better name? 😛

Opera is a great browser. It's amazing that its user base is so small though.

Don't care for this AVG inclusion though.. sounds more like Opera wants to go back to it's ad based system by offering AVG subscriptions.

Have they gotten rid of the Windows 7 showing multiple icons on the taskbar when you have multiple tabs open? Or at least made it an option? If not, I'll stick with 10.10 for all time.

I tired 10.6 in Linux Mint and see garbled text about 3/4 of the way down. Rebooting didn't help. No other browser has this problem. When back to 10.11 and the issue went away.
