That is the be all end all catch all phrase. It is the perfect fallback when you are trying to prevent any progress.
If they can drop a "bothsides" and get the media to broadcast it for them, it is so much winning.
It's a very brain dead analysis, and it's generally quite infuriating to always see this sort of framing. Many media outlets are so afraid of appearing biased, that they actively choose a different, and worse-for-reporting-the-truth type of bias instead.

Yep, it's akin to stating 2+2=5 since one side said it was 6.
