Same here.

Opera doesn't render some pages correctly. Just as a quick example, GameSpot.com is a trainwreck in Opera. Sometimes it's stuff as small as the grey bar on the left side that says "My Menu": In Opera, it's like one or two pixels too long.

I haven't used Opera 8 beta yet. If they fix the rendering problems, I'll switch back to Opera, as I liked it better. But honestly, both are good. FF just renders some things better.

Never had any trouble with GameSpot. Renders perfectly fine here. I don't know what grey bar you are referring to, I see no "My Menu" anywhere.

There's the My Menu bar. It's minor, but it's indicative of the problems I had with Opera. Like I said, GameSpot renders properly now, but it sure didn't always.

I love how you can set a nickname and just type "at" for example to go to anandtech

I think how Opera handles bookmarks is one of the best features! Sure as hell better than MSIE.

It's pretty simple to figure out why most people don't even look at opera.

It only costs if you want to get rid of the advertisement bar, but it is pretty small and I hardly ever notice it.

If it is needed to have a small advertisement banner to support a superior product, then I can deal with that.

I hate advertisements.

Well stop surfing the internet then, and stop posting on AT. Advertisments all over this website, 3x the size of the ad banner in Opera.

Cocky fvcker, wherever you have a choice to view advertisements or not, what would you choose?

I choose the better software, I thought that was obvious. I actually like the ad banner in Opera, I have a similar one built into my blog. Using keywords with what I'm viewing, it displays relevant text links. It's actually useful.

Oh, and a couple other pluses for Opera, at least for me:

Opera is great at saving web sessions, something I haven't had a lot of luck with in FF (half the time it doesn't work or tells me the tab session may be broken).

It's faster than FF.

Fast-forward is great!

well i couldn't find a way to make a toolbar linked to a bookmark folder like the "Links" toolbar you find in firefox and ie. i tried doing it in opera but the toolbar's bookmarks were not synchronized with the bookmark folder. i make use of the Links bar extensively so it's a must-have for me.

in fact it's the only reason i ditched opera after trying it out for a day or two

OMG IT'S OFF BY 2 PIXELS, I WILL NOW STOP USING OPERA.

I've gotta admit, that's one of the funniest things I've seen in a while.

Hey, it's the only example I could remember as I haven't used Opera for five months now. But the two pixels do look like crap. I'm not going to take the time to dig up the other pages that didn't render right in Opera, but there were enough to make me try out FF.

AT has no advertisements, at least not with the AdBlock extension for Firefox, which apparently Opera doesn't have an equivelant for.

That's like saying you can do tabbed browsing in IE with MYIE2, they're not built-in extensions, they're additional programs.

After 32k+ posts you are too inconvenienced to click an advertisement banner to help support the forum in which you racked up those 32k posts?

Why would opera help you defeat the lifeblood of websites including its own ad supported free version. Having said that ad blocking is extremely easy.

It's the same thing. Heck, this doesn't even need to be installed.

If you're going to be picky about stuff like that, Firefox screenshot

Yeah, I noticed that after I switched. It's never bothered me because it's out of my field of view when I'm browsing AT. I just noticed the menus on C&D.com are overly transparent in FF -- they're opaque in Opera and IE.

Sucks, now I can't remember any of the pages Opera used to screw up for me. Oh well.

Have resisted commenting throughout most of this thread (especially since it's in the wrong forum), but making such an inane comment requires a reply.

Most of the features Firefox touts above other browsers were invented and/or pioneered by Opera. While I prefer Opera, I would equate Firefox equivalent in most functions, and would classify both far above Internet Explorer.
