I had a really nice CRT monitor, but when I moved to college it broke- I bought a decent LCD - LG Flatron L1920... The first thing I noticed is.... The visual quality is nothing like a high quality CRT... Oh well... Just sad...

Too true. I have a Samsung 940Be and while its great for games and everyday PC stuff, my Sony E500 is still in use cuz the screen is freaking beautiful and movies still suck on any LCD, IMO.

That might be your number one problem. The native resolution on your LCD is 1280x1024, so your screen is likely stretching vertically.

Agreed, I actually don't know how I ever lived without an LCD before.

In games though when it is 1290X1024 it still doens't have the same crispness or visual quality

I much prefer LCD... i have a 24" CRT for gaming (Sony GDM-FW900), but i love my laptop LCD and my LCD displays... and eventually i'm going to pick up a 24" LCD to replace my CRT. Colors are much more vibrant on LCD. There's no flickering whatsoever. And sooo much easier on the eyes. Sure, black levels are sometimes a problem, but just get a display with a good contrast. As for ghosting... that doesn't bother me one bit, i don't see it... maybe i'm just not sensitive to that.

Movies play great on my 24" Dell LCD, I prefer an LCD vs a CRT anyday

I'm so much happier with my 2005FPW than I was with my old Viewsonic A90f+. The text is so much sharper and easier on the eyes. Even video looks nicer. I couldn't find any pages that listed if the L1920 was 6 or 8 bit. That could make a difference, since the 8 bit panels reproduce colors better than the 6-bit ones (even though the faster 6-bit panels are better for gaming).

Yeah, I'm really suffering with my LCDs.

Switch to 1280x1024@60Hz, autoconfigure settings, run ClearType tuner, use decent VGA cables.

Get a DVI connection. LCDs aren't meant for analog signals. If your LCD doesn't have DVI connection. It could explain why your image sucks (cheapo monitor). I love my LCD, it displays crisply during movies and games. Plus it's got a smaller footprint on my desk and it's lighter. Try carrying a CRT to a friends house for a lan party. I know I have =(

I was never impressed with LCDs, but I bought one for college. When I hooked both of my monitors (Viewsonic PF775 and Dell 1704) side by side I was amazed by how dim and fuzzy the CRT looked. I love my LCD now.

the 19" lcds should be a higher resolution. i went with a 17" because it is the same resolution, thus crisper than a 19" would have been.

imo, i like the lcd over the crt for space, energy use and the therefore heat. since my crt was not a "professional" unit, the visual quality is equal with my 730b even using the dsub connector...

i agree with others....you MUST get a DVI connection if your video card has one to use.

I went from a Mitsubishi DiamondPro 2070, and very highly rated CRT for graphics to a Samsung 244T.

Text is sharper, much sharper on the LCD than the CRT, and the gaming graphics......lag, what lag?

if you are using an analog VGA cable to the LCD, it's going to look crappy compared to a CRT in my experience.

dvi cable will help but motion blur on lcd's just suck.
i have a 21.3 samsung lcd a 22" g510 crt and a hp a7217a 24" wide screen crt.
I'll take the high res crt any day over a lcd.
g510 was $50 and the hp was $190
you don't even want to know what the lcd was when it was new 2 years ago lol.
