movies is nice when viewed from at least two meters
QFT.

Never go back to CRT. LCD - very sharp, less weight, less power, less eyestrain, better colour, better geometry. I have a Dell 1905FP 8 bit somewhat slowish, maybe, but cannot notice any ghosting on games. The text scrollign issue is just a matter of getting used to...

I tried a Samsung 997DF CRT before the switch to LCD when my 17" Samsung 700IFT studio monitor crapped out, but geometry and picture quality/sharpness was quite horrible and I returned it.

The analog LCDs that I have used look as good or usually better than the CRTs that I use. I know that DVI is the best, but I will take analog LCD over a CRT anyday!

I changed over a few years ago and don't regret it at all. My main monitor is a Dell 2005FPW and it is superb, much nicer to use than a CRT.

Yeah...it ticked me off for awhile that my TV tuner's recordings looked like trash on my computer monitor (even though I knew it was a much higher resolution), but then I realized...I don't sit 12" away from my TV, so why should I sit 12" away from my monitor to watch movies? Now even iTunes TV shows look fine, you just have to sit 5 or 6 feet away and it's fine. My 19" Dell LCD is a fantastic double for a television set, especially in the dark.

Fwiw, I went to a 24" Dell Untrasharp from a 19" NEC CRT, and I would have zero interest in going back.

I was never impressed with LCDs, but I bought one for college. When I hooked both of my monitors (Viewsonic PF775 and Dell 1704) side by side I was amazed by how dim and fuzzy the CRT looked. I love my LCD now.

High-end Trinitrons do not look fuzzy or DIM. Cheap CRT's are often DIM and Fuzzy. I have a professional Sony and used a cheap Shamrock CRT plugged in to the second port on my video card and I know what you are talking about. Side by side, an LCD does look better than the shamrock but not the Expensive sony.

You have not seen a nice LCD then. ;)

(This coming from a GDM-FW900 owner). The main downfall of lcds as PC displays is many have the 'screen door effect' where you can see the lines in between the pixels, IMO.

Backlight bleeding is also a common LCD problem.

Yes there are LCDs that make CRTs seem completely obsolete... they are all also >$500 when a good 19" CRT can be had for <$150.

For $1500, you get sharp text? For that kind of money, you should be able to have sex with it.

I'll have to go with flat panels when my CRTs die, but until then, no thanks.

Bought into the LCD thing last summer, wasn't that happy at first. Before that, I was using a 15" for...forever... (5+years) with from what others said, had poor colour. Took about 3 months to get use to the small text(ran at 800x600 for those 5+ years) at native res. and the brightness was blinding. Never had any complaints about image quality though since I switched to native res. (ran at 1024x768 for first few weeks=fuzzy wuzzy). Just got a 19" LCD at work, but it won't run at native properly due to the 7 year old system it's hooked up to, so back to square one(fuzzy). Having said that, won't go back to CRT ever.

Have to say that I really like my LCDs and will go all-LCDs when my CRTs finally go. My RasterOps is about 10 yrs old. My Dell, 6 years old.
My next Dream LCD will be a Dell 24".

Hoesttly I don't understand why you guys love Dell so much I mean they don't make them themseves, There are better Lcd's than Dell.
All you are paying for is the casing and the badge.

NEC & some Viewsonic are just as good if not betterr.

You mean I could have gotten the same 24" ultrasharp for less than $750 shipped if I had bought it without the uber prestigious Dell branding?

Wow, I never knew.

Hello clueless.

Do some comparisons about quality and what Dell INCLUDES (if you really wanna go 24" to 24"). There isn't a better value out there.

well i bought this noname LCD 17in. and i was a little bit skeptical, but it turned out to be alright, and although it was relatively cheap (for where i live), the picture quality is phnemenol. much better then my dads 2002 19in. NEC one. the resolution is higher, and especially the ease on the eyes. i just can't work on his.

I like my Cornerstone 21" CRT. Sure, my father's 8ms Hyundai LCD is nice, and sharp, and clear, but I just don't have the graphics-card power to drive 1280x1024 with decent amounts of AA & AF turned on. That's where the CRT wins out.

Well thanks for pointing out who OEMs the Dell screens, but I already knew that. What I was hoping you were going to provide is a link to a retail deal for a better 24" screen for less money than I paid for the Dell.

I had an Iiyama VM Pro502 for 5 years, and thought nothing would top it. When I got my Samsung SyncMaster 244T, I knew I was wrong. Aside from the footprint and power benefits, I am reminded every day, because I moved the Iiyama to my office. <fwiw>

Are you CRAZY? I would never, EVER even consider going back to a CRT from my dell 2005FPw...

Not a chance in hell.
