Only time will tell.
Wasn't it just last year that many Dems were saying that the GOP is dead? Then what happens? They take the House, Senate, President, and Supreme Court. Life is very unpredictable.
Who knows. If Trump is firing on all cylinders and many of his promises are coming true than that will be good for Republicans. If many of his plans cause despair, frustration and we have massive riots than he will be quickly ushered out of office.
Again. Only time will tell.
Those calculations didn't take into account Trump's successful transformation of the national race into an ethnicity(+education) based election. Turns out he got the vote of every bigoted blue dog remaining in the democratic party (you know, the ones conservatives here were so helpful to point out before).
The GoP, as it was, is dead. Trump did not just take on the establishment in the Democrat party, he took on the establishment in his own as well. Don't think for a moment he has only an axe to grind with the Democrats. The look is all over Paul Ryan and McCain's faces, they aren't relishing in this victory with popped corks and wine bottles. They're scared shitless of the fact that after feeding fear, paranoia and hate for decades to get out the vote against their enemies that they now have created a monster too big for them to control on their hands now poised to wreck havoc upon the very game they had sought to dominate.
Republicans have not sought to govern for a very long time now, preferring instead to obstruct those that do at every turn. Now they are thrust into a position of leadership with a standard bearer who is perhaps the loosest cannon ever to hold office. The best advice I can give is to relish in this moment of victory in the election now while one can. Come January shit is going to get very serious for the next four years and neither Obama nor the Democrats can take credit for the fallout to come. Already Trump is slapping the Republican old guard in the face with about faces on numerous issues and they are powerless to stop him. An angry, rabid block of voters whipped into a frenzy rally behind him in a foreboding message to the establishment old guard and if they dare cross Trump now then those are the voters they will need to explain their defiance to in mid terms.
The GoP sold their souls for years, first to the Tea Party and now to Trump for the sake of winning elections at all costs. The GoP that once stood for Capitalism, reduced government spending and less big government dictating terms to smaller governments is dead. We all now have a front row seat to the emergence of an all new Republican party. Stay tuned.
Won't worry, trump'll blame it all on the mexicans/muslims/blacks and maybe even the asians this time. Not reason to believe it won't work again.
