the label in the back of the package says sodium = ~30% per serving.
but it also says this 18oz package is 2 1/2 servings!

30 x 2.5 = 75%

no wonder my mouth feels like it ate too much salt in one sitting.

That means I've dated well over 300% of my daily sodium before. Anyone looked at the back of the chicken pot pies before. :awe:
I still manage to be 6'2" and 190lbs.

yup at pot pies. after seeing the sodium content, I haven't eaten one this century. and they've made the pot pies with even more servings, thus MORE sodium intake. jeez

For decades people including health care professionals kept repeating misinformation about salt being harmful. That would apply to a specific population subpopulation who are sodium sensitive and thats far from the majority.

I wouldn't sweat it.

I've only been alive since a year into past century. I once ate 2 pot pies for one meal. I've also eaten an entire gigantic pot pie from a place up north. Think it was called the cuddle corner. Something weird like that.

Salt is used as a filler in a lot of processed foods. Hides the awful taste of the grade F meat they're using.

I regularly have well over the suggested daily intake of sodium and I'm still alive.

Tonight for dinner, I had a Boston Market chicken pot pie. I didn't check the sodium content, but it 16oz in 2 servings for about 1140 calories total, IIRC. Probably had a fair amount of sodium.

Yep the 18oz is meant for 2 people. They also have a 10oz meant for 1 person.

"Why is my double double big mac, large fries, and coke have so many calories. Damm McDonalds its all your fault." /heavy breathing

Extra sodium is only really bad for you if you have existing high blood pressure or other problems, or so I hear.

Canned soup is just as bad. Campbell's Classic Chicken Noodle has 1600mg per can. Recommended daily intake is 2400mg. That's why I switched to Progresso's "Hearty Healthy" It's got about 1,000mg in the same size can. Still not great, but better.

Yes, packaged foods from big names are typically like this.

It's been a long time since I have read anything on the topic of sodium, but IIRC sodium and potassium play an important part in balancing fliuds in the body. Excess sodium causes problems.

I make my own homemade lasagna. So much better than the store bought crap and it don't take THAT much prep work.

If we never ate more than one service of anything in a day we'd Americans would all be confused with Ethiopians. Whomever decided 'a serving' was to be whatever it is was just nuts.

Ugh, no wonder we've got so many fat people in this country.

If you have the calories to burn, no big deal. Problem is, most people don't because they sit all day doing not much of anything.

The sodium issue isn't such a big deal to those that hydrate properly. The problem is people are eating a bunch of sodium laced foods then washing it down with various beverages that also have sodium.

Exercise, water.

It's all about excess. Sodium is used as a preservative.

And when we're not overdoing it taking in sodium? It's an electrolyte.

What's important with nutrition is habits and trends, not whether you eat one high salt dish. I wouldn't eat that shit every day (actually, I wouldn't eat _that_ shit at all), but otherwise don't worry about it.

They were decided during a time before the average size of meals skyrocketed.
