A bear can run twice as fast as you and running on a downward slope makes absolutely no difference. Your best bet is to get as high into a tree as possible.....work case a black bear can chase you up the tree and get you, but I'd honestly rather fall 40-50 feet to my death than get eaten alive. I guess you could punch/kick in the nose/eyes but that's going to be pretty damn hard to do while you are getting ragdolled by a giant beast.

At some point you probably have broken arms/legs and can't really fight back. It's hard to punch or poke a bear if you don't have a hand or at least one that works.

from what i understand, bears can't keep up if you run downhill because their momentum will make them start rolling down the hill.

If the story is true, that's pretty bullshit that they chased down and killed the bears...humans came onto their territory, bears are wild animals, and humans are viable food.

The bears are taking a stand for their rights, encroach upon their land at your own risk. They said stop taking their land.

Damn, that's horrible.
Thankfully for me there are not many bears in Illinois, and if I ever do go into bear country, I'm bringing my 357 with (for piece of mind)

I think they have to do that. Once the bears start to think of humans as a food source there is a good chance they will attack again.

lols, what? That might be a good reason, but the fact is they are technically our enemies(we're both predators looking for food) and they got one of ours so we should get theirs just makes for good business.

But about Planet of the Apes?

Is it true that if you get a tree between you and the bear, and just keep circling so that the tree is always between you and the bear that it'll eventually give up?

According to some Russian website I read, this happened at a popular cmaping site. Lots of food leftovers thrown around. Bear got hooked on human food, and when she had the cubs, she came for the humans.

Is it usual for a bear to have 3 cubs?

Wonder if the mom would rather have not gotten the calls. Not sure I would want to hear a loved one die a slow death.

This is why you carry a gun when you are in the woods with bears. She should at least have had a good knife on her. More than one person has killed a bear with just a knife.
