Sad sad story. At the very least she was still composed enough to have made those phone calls and not simply pass out from the pain/shock. One can only hope the shock factor overpowered her pain and suffering early on and not later on. Poor girl :(

Christ that's depressing...I can't imagine the frustration and sense of helplessness that poor woman and her daughter went through. :'(

This. Out if all the screwed up things being posted lately, this one is actually putting me in a funk.

WTF... This kind of stuff creeps me out

I cant believe the girl was aware throughout the whole process... The brain should have just shut off and relieve her from the pain

But yeah, I dont think if you are being eaten alive you have the clarity to pick up phone, call your mom and talk to her, sounds like shens

Why did she not run away if she had the chance. Calling your mom while being eaten alive? I can't imagine doing that if that's even possible. :\

Looks like "Goldilocks" was eaten by the 3 bears. :(

If you stay alive for an hour while being attacked by a bear, you're weren't fighting back hard enough.

This is from russia people. It's like the weekly world news of countries. Seriously there are probably worse things that happen in russia but odds are someone just made this one up.

I can't believe all of the ATOT doubters are believing this.

You won't believe in Jesus, but you hear a story of a girl calling mom to have a chat for an hour, all the while she's being eaten by a bear, and you're all in tears and ready to go hunt the bears down. :D

Hold on while I dig that deed to the Brooklyn Bridge out of my sock drawer. It'll be up on FS/FT in a few. I'm looking for $500 or a new iPad 2.

Anyone trekking out into the wilderness where such large predators reside really need to have some kind of weapon on them. I don't get it, people always tell themselves "it won't happen to me" or "the chances are" and they in turn are the chance itself.

I would assume a dead man and a partially eaten girl is enough evidence compared to jesus...

I could see the girl making the call while in shock between being mauled but not while being mauled! WHen in shock you could do many strange things, but the horror and pain experienced during the mauling I doubt you could call and chat while it was happening.

Sounds like mom made the story more interesting than it was.More plausible would be the girl wakes up between attacks is in shock and calls mom for help. when in shock your senses are dulled somewhat and you could make a call for help.

My 2 cents worth of theories.

I remember that audio tape of the wife watching her conservationist husband getting eaten alive by grizzlies in their tent before they turned on her...one of the most stomach-turning things I have ever listened to.......

I won't bother to read this story, as that was bad enough.

I think you're confused about the Timothy Treadwell recording.

1. He wasn't married. He and his girlfriend were both eaten while the camera recorded audio.
2. The tape hasn't been released to the public. You probably watched people's reactions to the tape while watching Grizzly Man.

Just seeing the reactions of Timothy's friends was pretty powerful.

Ok on #1, but what did I see on #2? I swear it was on dateline or something...I remember screaming though....reenactment?

before the bear attacked me, i'd have tried to make myself as big and scary as possible. then, if that didn't work, i'd have run my ass as fast as i could to a downward slope. i'd have tried desperately to kick or punch it in the nose as hard as i could. i wouldn't simply let it just eat me alive.

this is horrific. can't imagine the memories that mom is gonna have to live with for the rest of her life.

No source link? This story is confusing. I mean just picture it. The girl is laying there on the ground, the bears are eating her and she's on the phone with her mom talking to her. Like, a bear is chewing on her leg and she has her phone up to her ear and is having a conversation with mom.

Yeah you would think the girl would have fought back instead of talking on the phone?

Though on that show I Shouldn't Be Alive this guy lived in a cabin with his family in the woods somewhere in the US. He took his dogs out for a walk one night and ran into a brown bear. The bear attacked him and he tried to defend himself but obviously was over powered. He basically protected himself while the bear ate at his head and back. The bear took off a few times and returned to pounce on the guy. For some strange reason while the guy was on the ground the bear just left.

Fact bears can sprint up to 30 mph fact bears are much stronger than we are fact I hope the bears like the taste of feces because if they catch me that is what they will taste!

A bear can run twice as fast as you and running on a downward slope makes absolutely no difference. Your best bet is to get as high into a tree as possible.....work case a black bear can chase you up the tree and get you, but I'd honestly rather fall 40-50 feet to my death than get eaten alive. I guess you could punch/kick in the nose/eyes but that's going to be pretty damn hard to do while you are getting ragdolled by a giant beast.

At some point you probably have broken arms/legs and can't really fight back. It's hard to punch or poke a bear if you don't have a hand or at least one that works.
