P.S. For the CC buyers, don't forget about that $40 off $200 coupon. You can get the A2, and maybe a few chocolate bars or something, for $161.

if it is confirmed that sears will have the A3 for $170 this txgiving, sure, I can wait 22 days.

can someone confirm that on the A3, if you use HDMI, you can still connect the optical out to your HT receiver and output sound through your HT system.
in other words, only use the HDMI for video out to the tv and turn off sound through hdmi.

i hope i didn't confuse you guys

I can confirm that works for the A2. I can't say for sure with the A3 though.

The HD-A2 is now $179.99 now at Best Buy

Sold out online, but some stores still have it.

Yes, you can still use optical audio out if you use HDMI for video. That's how I have my system set up. All the audio formats get converted to 1.5 Mbps DTS for output.

The spec of HD-A2 and HD-A3 lists only the -R varieties of writable DVD's. Does either one play DVD+R?

Thanks.

Does the Best Buy player got 2 free DVDs inside + 5 free mail in?

I believe they play both -R and +R but I haven't tried.

The A2 (at Best Buy) does NOT include 2 free HD DVDs inside the box. It qualifies for the 5-free mail-in though.

The A3 includes 2 free HD DVDs, but that's not on sale. However, on Black Friday, the A3 will be only $170 at Sears, in-store and online, from 5 am to 12 noon.

Also, over optical, the A2 outputs audio as 1.5 Mbps DTS. I believe the A3 outputs it as 640 Kbps DD over optical.

Both my A1 and A2 play +R and -R media. I can't speak for the A3.

Yeah, I saw this as well and thought it might be a misprint. So, I called two local stores to see if anyone could confirm that this is happening this Friday and know one has any idea what I'm talking about, so they say. I know Target employees were told to play dumb for the Wii, so this could be the same thing, but I highly doubt it.

Can anyone get an B&M store to confirm that this is really happening this Friday and that it really is for $98.87???

Someone with no posting history (first post) posted this yesterday and the $15 HD DVD disc deal at another forum, and we thought he was full of BS. But then then somebody else who worked at Wal-Mart confirmed the $15 HD DVD disc deal. And then just a few minutes ago, this $99 player deal was confirmed by Wal-Mart's own website.

This is real folks.

Fantastic price on the A2 player. Also, bravo on the fact that no Blu-Ray fanboys have come in to trash on this. =]

I understand...and trust me, I'm not trying to bash this. I'd LOVE to grab this deal. I just want to make sure it's legit before I waste a Friday morning away from work to do so. Also, the website says "Not Available in all stores" for the HD-A2 and the Sanyo Plasma.

I looked up the domain, and the regisration seems legit, although the contact information is different from that of the walmart.com domain info. Combining this with the fact that no one in store has been able to confirm this yet, makes me a little weary. I'm hoping a store will confirm before Friday morning...otherwise, I'll be up there anyway. I also don't want to be waiting at one store only to find out they don't have any and miss geting one from a store that did have some.

Well, ads from Wal-Mart started airing today, promoting both the Toshiba HD-A2 and the Acer $348 laptop, and Wal-Mart a day or two ago released a press blurb saying that they will be pre-empting Black Friday with early sales like this.

I guess the HD format war will continue after all.
Not if Blu-Ray players don't come down to this price. This pricing will get average people (who aren't interested in consoles) to buy.

They would be eligible for the 5-free HD DVD movie mail-in deal
How does this work? Anyone have a link to the list of titles?

If I can get this player and Planet Earth for $100, I'm in!
