Well I got Amumu and Rammus over the weekend. I only got around to playing Amumu in a few games though. I find that getting money with him is rediculously slow(yes I'm jungling) compared when I'm solo laning as Karthus.

This is playing tanks in general. You are going to have less gold to spend than a carry or a caster. You get your gold mainly through assists. That is the point of a tank. You do not kill people. You help other people kill them. I've had many games on rammus when people call me a n00b because I'm 0/7/3, but I cant do shit if they cannot kill. And other games where I had great carries and go 2/2/22 and have every item I could possibly want. As a support, you are VERY dependent on the other players.

This is also partly where the skill in jungling comes into play. As a jungler, don't sit in the bushes for 5 mins trying to get an opening to gank somebody. Focus on killing your jungle mobs, and if a lane is constantly over-extending and open to a gank, go help. If somebody needs you to cover a tower, go and then get right back to jungling. As a tank jungler, your main goal is to maintain parity with the laners both in exp and gold. If you cannot keep up, something is wrong and you need to adjust your jungling style. Once you hit team fights, you're entirely dependent on your team and getting assists.

This is why I don't agree with peoples interpretation of tank. Cho is among what I consider the tankiest of the tanks. Along with Mundo and Mord. Sure they don't have taunt, but they tank as well as the "real" tanks and put out more damage usually too. Although I don't really think Cho's damage is all that usually, he does have decent CC

There is no point in being a pure tank if you can't force people to attack you and ignore everyone else. Cho isn't that tanky if you go with the extremely holy shit awesome AP build.

End Game, I can burst, out off the top of my head, 600 damage from rupture, 400 damage with the silence, and finish it off with like 900 true damage and this is only 3/4 of the way through my build. Cho is a pure off tank mage. Considering his Q also stuns for that half second and slows and his w silences, throwing him into the middle of a fight can be amazing to win a team right when you can usually force the entire team to get him by the rupture and silence and doing a fuck ton of damage to everyone at the same time.

Tanky Cho Gaths are extremely fail.

I completely agree about Cho! I thought I was the only one.. Every time I play him ppl expect him to tank and I say no and they laugh, until I'm the one with most kills...

He also makes a suprisingly good hybrid melee/mage considering his vorpal spikes or whatever on regular attacks. Throw in your silence and rupture and he is one deadly monster.

I also play a real tank - Alistar - and he takes dmg amazingly well/better than any Cho tank build ever could.

When I play cho I go tanky. You can do decent damage with him, but it's nice for you team if you can just wade into battle dump disables on the whole team and freak out/kill one guy. They can't just dive past you since you'll still do decent damage, but focusing you will let your team pick them off while you laugh off the damage.

Except you're not really doing anything if you go pure tank. They can very well completely ignore you because the amount of dps you do as a tank is insignificant compared to what other people can do. Also with a lack of a taunt, the only real way you can tank is if other people purposefully go for you, which most likely they won't. The long cooldowns on rupture mean its incredibly hard to keep people away from your squishes, so except for that first rupture, you really can't do your main job as a tank, forcing them to attack you so they ignore the squishies.

If you go tank, you're doing everything in an extremely mediocre way and can't even do the one job you built him to do properly. AP Cho Gath is the only way to build him properly

I completely agree that AP then a tanky item (abyssal and the hourglass are great options) is the only decent way to play Cho (excellent game last night Nikolae).

Does anyone have some advice for TT? I've started playing this again and while I don't feed I'm having trouble winning against decent teams. In general
1. Ganks are faster and more common
2. Wards are crucial
3. Doran item stacking is even better
4. Controlling the neutral buffs (especially red) is critical and worth taking smite for.
5. You must be a semi-tanky character since you're usually farther from your tower.

My current favorite 3x3 character is Nunu since the slow is deadly, consume doubles as a way to get the buffs early and most other great characters (Mundo, Renek, WW) on the map do AD damage. Anyone who requires any significant farm is not an option.

As an aside, I really really really really hate true damage because most non-tanks don't build HP, just a little armor or MR as appropriate and you really need HP against true damage.

Yeah that was a damn good game. First game in a while that didn't involve me yelling at the monitor and wishing there was a device to strangle someone over the internet.

As for TT, that was a massive steamroll. I agree that units that require more building up don't work very well. WW and Nunu absolutely dominated us. Also, the fact that you guys took units that could jungle without trying also really hurt us as you could get all the buffs easily and quickly. WW and Nunu absolutley dominated especially with the Nunu slow and ult combined with WW's ability to roam anywhere and gather buffs without a care.

I didn't realize how good Dorans stacking was. I went for my normal cho gath build and quickly realized that it was impossible to farm past level 3 because of the easy ganks and so I had no money ever to get to the higher items.

It would seem that playing characters that have flash type moves would be best as the walls get annoying and if you flash past one, you basically have escaped because going around it takes forever.

And of course I really really really really love true damage. I love it when a tank comes up thinking his resists will keep him safe and then suddenly I take away 2/3 of his health with a single attack.

Hehe, making me want to get into a match tonight 🙂 Was doing some other games for a bit. You guys care for a Xin player?

heh you're finally slowing down on the WoW kick huh? A good carry is always welcome =) Although I have to ask do you play anyone besides Xin?

LOL, yah. I've played everything if you remember 😛

Actually was doing WoW and then Rift. Will be back on the Rift think on Thursday+ for awhile though since I pre-ordered the game. But I have time tonight for a few LOL games for sure.

Haha, same here as far as WoW and Rift. I probably won't play WoW much for awhile but I'll be busy leveling hard in Rift starting tomorrow.

As far as TT, I almost never play it and I was surprised we crushed so hard. [EDIT: my LoL account is drakantus, I was the WW.] I think it was kinda one of those games we won at champion select, jungle control seems to be key on that map. In a 5v5 map, 1 jungler means the lanes get 20% more xp overall, but in a 3v3 a jungler means the lanes get a net 50% increase in XP, it's that much more important.

I've been playing a lot of premade normal games with some RL friends, and I've come to the conclusion the mordekaiser is an incredibly overpowered beast of a champion. Just looking at his overall game, and I can't find any weaknesses in him.

-Amazing early game, capable of jungling but superior in the 1vs2 lane situation.
-Scales better with armor than anyone else, due to the mechanics of his metal shield.
-Farms as well as any carry, solo pushing lanes while getting every last hit easily.
-Dominates lategame, can even come out on top in a 1vs3 fight due to the strength of his ultimate and "free" metal shields when fighting amongst creeps.

My build-

Masteries:
0/21/9- I want to be a tank first and foremost, and I build around regen so the regen masteries from utility help, and hitting 6 first or at least on par with your lane opponents is key so I always take the XP masteries.

Runes: magic pen red, hp regen/lvl yellow, cooldown blue, hp regen/lvl quints. I stack so much armor and magic resist, which makes regen more useful than HP. I might experiment with flat regen runes to make the early game even easier, but I only have regen/lvl runes currently so that is what I use. I am not sure the cooldown runes help much, I might replace with magic resist/lvl or AP/lvl.

Items:

1- doran's shield
2- merc treads
3- force of nature (make sunfire first vs teams heavy with physical damage)
4- sunfire cape
5- abyssal scepter
6- warmog's or thornmail (warmog's to counter heavy magic burst, and teams with multiple ignites, or chogath, or other nasty truedamage, thormail vs heavy physical carry teams, or just to alllow for easier tanking of turrets)
7- replace doran's shield with hextech gunblade. Usually the game is over by now anyway, but I find the gunblade the a good final item to added both AP and attack damage to make it that much easier to push the final turrets, as well as a much needed slow and some lifesteal and spellvamp to make you even more tanky.

I've tried frozen mallet in place of the gunblade in a game where I really wanted to stack more HP, but it didn't seem worthwhile. Sometimes I'll make an aegis if gold is short but I want to boost my survivability and help team fights.

^ is just the experience that you have to gain to know when to dive. very often the summoner ability of the defender have a great effect on outcome.

That, and the presence of a shen on the opposing team. When I first started it seemed like every single "sure kill" dive was foiled by an enemy shen.

To a lesser extent Ashe, karthus, gangplank, TF, or any stealther can turn a "safe" turret dive into a failure.

I really wanna play some LoL, but the last few days the internet in this hotel has gone to shit. Really sucks when pretty much everything I do involves the internet.

I played last night and realized that my issue is that I over commit to trying to kill heroes. I dive in trying to get the kill and the end result is that typically I am dead and they are not...

I have had a game where the enemy champ in mid lived 3 times with less than 20 hp when I was playing aniva. It really sucked not getting the kills and the gold, but at the same time it was still a major win in mid for me. They had to 'b' back constantly and I got some good farming done and ended up severely outleveling/outgearing them at which point I could start killing them. Let this be a lesson to you, killing isn't everything!

One of the most common mistakes everyone tends to make is over committing. It is real easy to get sucked into aggressive play which in turns typically causes you to get killed more than you should and then your team loses because you start sucking bad.

Which was part of the reason I gave up playing for awhile. I got real tired of people not watching the map, not watching call out, tower diving all the time, chasing all the time, and generally just not playing as a team. For example, I'm jungling and state I'm heading over to a lane to help gank from the bush. I ask that before I do so, they do not push that lane but let the other team push some so the gank goes easier. Does anyone listen? Usually not. So I am unable to gank or am forced to do so from a bad position.

Or I show that I'm going for dragon and hope to get support from the bottom lane, but it rarely happens. They are too busy tower diving and dying to notice.

No one lays down wards or rotates on ward purchases.

Everyone wants to solo a lane even when they are terrible at doing so.

That was part of the reason I stopped playing because getting together 4 solid people to do this was such a pain in the ass when I was starting to get competitive instead of playing "for the fun of it."

😛

Yeah, I'm brand new (whopping level 6) but it is a ton of fun. I think part of my issue with killing heroes is that I also don't know when/what skills to use. I used the free assassin character with the floating blade who throws knives and I noticed one of her skills slows the enemy down. Great, my issue is that I use it too soon and they have enough health left to scoot away before I can end them.

My champion is IKabobI, feel free to add me but know that I royally suck at this point!

Anyone having issues with the queue? It says I'm 9300 in queue, and the wait time is indefinite....wtf?

They need an option to mute the music while in queue as well...

GD crappy internet at this hotel. Played a game last night where I had over 30 assists on rammus, but we lost because I couldn't perform nearly as well as I normally do because the internet seemed to crap out EVERY time I started a team fight. Then we had our only half decent DPS/tower buster leave the game. We got all their towers down, even the two IN their base, just gotta take out the final barracks...and still lost.

Well, I got in 3 games last night before I called it quits. I did not get to play until late because I got sucked into a poker game after work and into watching the Spurs game. So by the time I got to play it was 9 CST and I didn't see any of you guys online.

Well soon as I got on I had a couple of guy message me if I would be interested in a game after they were finished with the current one. So I waited and joined them in a 3v3. It ended up being one short 3v3. Our side was Taric, Nidalee, and myself as Xin. They had Mundo, Nidalee, and Swain. Both good teams, but by the 20 minute mark I was soloing their whole team. I killed both Swain and Nidalee 1v2 with no help from a tower or even any creeps. I was 3/0/2 and they surrendered right after I did that double kill. Guess I hadn't lost my touch 🙂

My friends had to leave after that and I saw no one else online so I thought I'd join a random 5v5. I ended up picking rammus because as soon as I joined everyone picked a carry for my team. So I decided to do a jungle rammus. I was doing well in the jungle, and made my first gank early on at level 4 just like old times. We ended up completely owning the other team and they surrendered by the 30 minute mark or so. Which was funny because at the beginning after my first gank my team was complaining at me for jungling too much. I was like 😵 After my first gank attempt I tried a few more times to initiate but the team members nearby never followed my lead in so I would break off and go into the jungle. When they made that comment to me I told them right back, well if you would follow my lead in, I would stop jungling. So they started doing that and we won big time.

Next game wasn't so great. I played a jungle Xin in a 5v5. I was doing alright, and the LeBlanc on our team was doing great. Everyone else on my team was non-English and really bad players. I was getting foreign language spam and was not enjoying the game at all because it was mostly 2v5 with the foreigners that stunk on my team. I still went something like 7/6/7, but man it was a painful game.

Side note, LeBlanc looks like she got BEEFED again. Holy shit! I saw her blowing people up in 2 seconds flat like nothing again like she did when she first was introduced.
