Without the inspiration and youthful confidence of this young Frenchman many say General Washington would have given up against such great odds.
Actually it was largely Prussian mercenaries that taught the American militias how to match the British on the fields of 18th century combat.

That being said, most recognize that the French played a role in helping us win our Independence from England...although to be fair, the only reason the French helped us was to essentially exact revenge on the British for territories lost in the Americas during the French and Indian Wars.

Also, modern day France receives ridicule largely because they devoted so many resources to buiding the impenetrable Maginot Line, only to have the Nazis flank their defensive positions and take Paris in a matter of days...that, and the French essentially welcomed their Nazi overlords with open arms.

Or it could just be that Americans find French culture amusing...the same as I am sure the French find American culture amusing.

The French leaders have been saying for years that the savage Americans have a society that is divided and other nasty things. Now these pastry heads deserve what everything they get. France is burning and France can do nothing about it.

These politicians who threw dirt at America all these instead years of solving their much worse problems. France is a racially divided country with high unemployment rate and little if any job growth. France is burning and they cannot do a thing about it!

Are you happy about this?

I find it disturbing that so many who disagree with France's political policies have such disdain for its people/culture. :(

I wouldn't wish this sort of chaos on any nation.

It's a beautiful country, where the people are more or less kind. Plus, French food is most excellent, and the patisseries are everywhere!

Nope, you just didn't read what I posted. Instead you inserted what you wanted to fight against. "Overall, your attempt to bash me failed miserably because you didn't bring the truth, you brought your partisan opinion and tried to infer things about me and my posts."

Whats there to be happy about? This is what al-qaeda wants. It might be a beautiful country, but their politicians need to realize that their country needs much work done before they talk about America.

Oh I'm sorry I didn't realize calling a group of people pastry heads and cheese sniffers is love.

I feel this is less related to the rioters being Muslim, and more to do with their exclusion from French culture. I agree that France's lack of proper integration has hurt them.

Maybe France will quit trying to claim moral superiority over the US for a little while...before they start blaming the riots on us of course.

Where do you get off thinking that the whole of France has this view? I feel like the right wing just needed a boogie man to vent our frustrations at and they picked the French. Sure, some of the French hate Americans and like to claim superiority over this nation. However, MOST french people don't have such feelings. They don't like Bush, that's for sure, but they don't view America as bad, just our current government.

I wish more "France Bashers" would vent frustration w/ the French government as opposed to the people and its culture. "They surrender all the time!" is a pretty pointless comment, and adds nothing to discussion over French politics.

Please stop confusing newspapers/government policy w/ the people, and don't take French frustration w/ the US government as America-hating.

If this is indeed the case, I would be very relieved.

this thread shows how pathetic some people are. Its a silly parody thread in OT that I started a few weeks ago and here are some of the posts

No, they're kinda like French, but slightly less cowardly.

Belgians make great Beer, chocolate, and awesome guns......kind of hard to figure the gun thing since they are basically just like the French.

The second response was mine, and I was just joking around. I like Belgium. I bet I am one of the few people on this board who has actually been there. I used to live in The Netherlands. I love Brussels, and I have actually seen Manequin Pis......the image of that statue has remained in my head for 35 years. My favorite guns are from Fabrique Nationale. I was JOKING.

fair enough

Yes, I do.

Why must people bash the French? Which country had a four-minute shutdown of the ENTIRE nation in memory of those lost in 9/11? France. They shut down everything out of respect and sympathy and all they ever get back is hate. I wish people would grow the fvck up.

I have not read those threads but will assume they actually exist and your thread is not simply another "fake but true."

You are, hopefully, missing the message. Many will hear two people say virtually the same thing only to proclaim one is bashing and one is merely stating the truth.

My hope is that those you are proclaiming to be bashing are trying to point out a truth. The truth is that the passive who defend the enemy (hoping they will go away) only encourages more attacks.

Clinton: "we will get them" but does nothing. Result: an attack every year of his administration.

Bush: "we will get them" then he does, after 17 U.N. resolutions saying "please stop killing us. pretty please. with sugar on top?" Result: millions freed, the hundreds who were dying every day are now living in a freedom they have never before seen, (since liberals don't seem to care about womens rights we will ignore that women are no longer being raped; at least on the scale that it had been) and, unfortunately, nearly 3 Americans a day have died.

Just because the mainstream media refuses to remind people of what happened on 9-11 and in the years prior, doesn't mean it never happened. It does, however, show how much the mainstream media is willing to protect those that would harm them and bash those who will not. (Remember how they hid the atrocities of Saddam so they could continue to be wined and dined by him? Nice.... )
