Hahaha you guys are great. I am actually quite surprised by this thread. I was mostly expecting everyone to tell him to go get drunk but instead you guys simply told him good drinks to try. Even a few suggested when and how to drink and that surprised the hell out of me. Anand really is a more mature place than I thought ( at least in this thread :p )

Alcohol: Social lubricant and/or something to relax with at the end of the day

At the end of the day: you have your standard drinks: beer or ale, wine, a mixed drink, and\or your choice of distilled liquor. Blender drinks are not out of the question.

For a party or a weekend get-together try blender drinks:

Pina Colada
rum or vodka
pineapple juice
coconut syrup and ice

Strawberry Daiquiri, or peaches, or bananas, etc.
rum or vodka
frozen strawberries
frozen concentrated lemonade and ice

Ramos Fizz - a pleasant drink for Sunday brunch or substitute champagne
One-third orange juice
One-third half-and-half
One-third gin
powdered sugar
orange flower water and ice

A Waring blender is great for blender drinks, if you have $500 a Vitamix rules. I have several Waring blenders including one with a 12 VDC Motor for camping. Recently at BevMo I've seen a hand crank model, which looks pretty durable.

Fondue can be great if you have a small gathering of friends. Break out the wine. This was very popular in the late seventies and early eighties but I still make it today.

Sunday brunches make great get-togethers. Champagne is an excellent choice here, as are Ramos Fizzes or even a New Orleans Fizz. You don't get a lot done, but you socialize.

You can make some great picnics with the right wine and some cheese, etc.

You should have some bartending software so I recommend College Bar or Bar Genie:

Have fun, don't overindulge, and if you do you?ve been warned.

Syrupy? There's no syrup in them at all!

There's nothing quite like a good piña colada while sitting on the beach watching the sun set.

Long Island
Captain Morgans and Coke
Jack-n-Coke
Margaritas (or upside down w/girls boobies poking you in the back of the head is best!) :)
Amaretto and anything... Sour/Coke whatever
Whiskey sour
Vodka and Cranberry
Tequilla shots w/lime

Never had the taste for beer, and that's a good thing. I'm one of the few people I know that LOST WEIGHT in college! :)

You don't like beer? Shens on the German/Irish part.

Hehehe... Don't I know it. I'm the black sheep of my family. Even my GRANDMA drinks beer! But, like I said, I'll bet they would have had to roll me out of college if I had the taste for it!

And one drink I left off my list, is the basic Screwdriver! Don't buy cheap vodka, even for mixers... Bleh! Smirnoff should be as low as you go...

I hated beer when I started drinking, and basically just stuck to bourbon. The one day after a year or so I tried a budweiser at a party, and it didn't kill me. Now I'll take all the dark microbrews in the world.

Two favorites are anything Rogue, and anything St. Peters(it's my medicine, but its $4 a bottle)

you are like 3-5 years behind on the learning curve

learn whats not good in HS
learn how to get drunk in college
learn how to appreciate when you are 21+

start trying some beers. realize that most things that come in a bottle will not taste as sweet or as smooth as baileys as it is not a standard proof liquor

It's not about getting drunk or being cool. For me, it's about coming home from a very long day, kicking off my shoes, pour a glass, put on some music and unwind.

That being said, I would like some suggestions on what I should try. So far I've had Bailey's Irish cream (local shop had the .75L for $18, not bad by the sound of it) and I really like it but I'm willing to try new things. :)

So tell me some of your choice drinks and what you like about it. (taste and all that good stuff.)

Here is the best resource you'll ever need.

but by no means the only one! This is simply a great place to learn about everything having to do with a drink.

Baileys owns... coffee, sugar, fat and alcohol all in one. Only way it could get better is if they found a way to fit a gorgeous woman in the bottle with those 4 magical ingredients. Try margaritas, try jack daniels w/ cola

There is a big difference between drinking, and getting sh!t faced drunk. Which *most* of us have done before. Sh!t faced drunk, gets old after awhile, it's does, besides, it's not pretty, and all the other lovely things like hangovers, possibly praying to the porcelain god, all that get's old. I haven't done that in years. I drink now to unwind, it is relaxing, just enough to mellow you out, that's all I need.

There have been several mentions of Baileys Irish Crème here. Here?s my recipe for making Irish crème. It?s quite good, appropriate for the upcoming holidays, and is high in calories to help you prepare for the upcoming winter.

Homemade Irish Cream Liqueur

1 3/4 cups of your favorite liquor (Irish whiskey, Brandy, Rum, bourbon, Scotch or rye whiskey)
1 - 14 ounce can Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk (NOT evaporated milk)
1 cup whipping or light cream
4 eggs
2 tablespoons chocolate flavored syrup
2 teaspoons instant coffee
1-teaspoon vanilla extract
One half teaspoon almond extract

Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Serve over ice if desired. Store tightly covered in the refrigerator for up to one-month. Stir before serving.
