ehh i have a friend with diabetes he has to wear an insulin pump all the time and tell it what to do, and he dirinks more then most people i know, hes not dead yet, hell i remember many a night of doing shots of 151 with him and chaceing them with vodka

Yeah, but your friend's not an eight year old boy.

He may not be dead yet, but he sure is not taking care of himself and will likely suffer in the future.

edit: ask him what his A1C is, if he even bothers taking them

Isaiah (my son) has been lowering his A1C every time we go to the endo. He is in the sevens now with hardly any lows.

Again, thank you all.

Rudeguy, I was asking about the binge drinker not your son 😱 Good to hear Isaiah is under good control 🙂

Since I am a Type I, I'll chime in.

You can drink, even get drunk, as long as you do it with people who know what's up. I wear a pump and drink a fair amount, my last A1C was 6.2 (less than 6.5 is good control, less than 6 is practically non-diabetic)

It is definitly NOT a good idea if you don't take care of yourself or lack the ability to sense a low while drunk.

But even in the best of scenarios, it's still a risk. the trick to type I is figuring out how to minimize them and still be able to live your life.

I drink, too, but very little at a time. It seems a lot of younger people pride themselves on drinking until they pass out - glad you are keeping a close eye on it 🙂 I have made almost 24 years with type 1 now, no complications yet (knock on wood).

Amen brother. I wish I could find the words to show how much this means to my son and I.

And to all of you that are living with type 1, keep on trying. I know how hard it can get.

Those of you that are still healthy after so many years give my son and I a reason to keep pushing on.

Thanks again.

It ain't over.

And I haven't even sent in my contribution yet.

I am hoping to get some of my friends involved. This is a seriously good cause.

Time to set the limit higher.

Nobody wants to contribute to a slam dunk. 😉

I think ATOT is good for $5G. In fact, I would bet on it.

Wow, unreal how generous you guys are (and that flash animation is awesome). Only thing is, it won't allow non-US residents to donate.

I can take care of that. I am a member of the Online Diabetes Supoort Team with the JDRF...We are responsible for about 90% of the contacts made. This should not be an issue.

thanks for all the bumps. I emailed the highest person I know in the JDRF to find out about the foreign donations. Should have an answer soon.

I really think you're right. Give your little boy a hug for me and tell your mom I said hi. 🙂
