7.75% in Orange County, California.

DE here as well :D

One of the few redeeming factors of living in Oregon.

Then again, I would gladly ditch the income tax in favor of a sales tax...

:)

You do realize they just make up for the lack of a sales taxes with taxes and fees elsewhere, right?
We're plenty aware of that, it's not like we live in log cabins or anything.;) We have higher income taxes and property taxes as a result, which most people don't mind.

State sales tax is not deductible from your federal taxes, state income tax is.
The lack of a state sales tax is why the Portland area has more retail sales than the Seattle area, despite the Seattle metro having almost twice the population. The lack of a state sales tax is why Oregon has some of the highest volume of car and RV sales in the country.

I could go on...

We get droves of people driving here from PA, NJ, and MD to make large purchases to save on sales tax. Excellent for the economy. Delaware is also well off because of the large amount of corporations that incorporate here due to our friendly laws.

Nothing makes me laugh harder than hearing a hardcore left liberal whine about new or increased taxes. :D

If you are referring to me....then you are a dumbass since I am a moderate.

Otherwise nevermind.

Funny, in every discussion I've had with you, you've leaned pretty far left.

But then, most hardcore liberals consider themselves "moderate." It must be a shame thing...
Or most Ultra Conservatives consider anyone who isn't part of their luntatic fringe Hardcore Liberals. Must be that paranoia thing.

Thank gawd I hardly qualify, right?

Red, you know better. Calling me "ultra conservative" is like calling Ashcroft a Libertarian. :p

RR Ultra Conservative or Ayn Rand wacko Libertarian....which is a worse insult? Hard for me to tell, either would be a shame thing.

No shame here. There's nothing "wacko" about libertarianism... unless you call the founders of our country "wacko."

Please point out just how the majority of the founders were not politically libertarian?

I agree...Bob Taft ==l33t sux0r

This pansy @$$ took about $90 million from schools this year...yet throws a multimillion dollar party "for Ohio"...when it is mainly for him and his rich prissy friends.

Also...didn't they add taxes to stuff that recently wasn't taxed?!?! I believe I'm correct...like now there are taxes...sales taxes...on services. Thank you Taft for really doing this state good! I can't wait to get out of this God forbidden state...

Not to mention our property taxes doubled recently....

Anyone want to snipe this bastich?!

Ayn Rand is sorta like a demented cult leader.

Pure libertarianism is really no better than Nazism or Communism where the people are concerned.

The only difference is that the wealthy and corporations would control the people and surpress the middle class......instead of the goverment as in the latter cases.

The American middle class did not gain any real substance and respect until FDR came into the picture and mixed socialism with capitalism.

Just read up on some American history and the middle class and you will quickly see that pure libertarianism and a strong middle class are not compatible.

Common misconception. The middle class gained ground when they learned they could organize and collectively bargin. FDR did nothing but spend money he didn't have. If the war hadn't come along, he would have been the worst president in the history of our country.

Socialism is anathema to freedom. You cannot be free if someone else is taking care of you.

Is that one of the things you tell yourself really? The founding fathers were all card carrying libertarians spouting off about how the market will take care of all their problems.

Feel better? How about answering the question? Would the founding fathers be considered libertarians or stongly libertarian leaning in today's world?
