That stuff kinda sucks. All of our company events make sure to let contractors know that they are not invited. I don't see what the big deal is...they work hard like everyone else.
Contractors, I can understand, somewhat. They're really not part of the company, and while they DO work hard, they're basically temps.

Student employees on the other hand, ARE part of the university community, and the whole point of ANY department at a university is to SERVE the university's students. Without the students, there wouldn't BE a university, much less a lockshop. That's what pisses me off.

Well, at the company I work for, everyone contracts first for a year or so then gets invited to go perm. They have lots of events and product giveaways and stuff, so it must suck having to work while the others are having fun. Most times I would rather take off early than go to these events, as do most other perm employees, but I would think it would suck for the contractors. I know some of it is security related...no one outside the company gets to play with the new toys earlier kinda thing, but sheesh. Let them have a beer and a shrimp!

I didn't mind not being invited. But it does suck once you find out after you get there as everyone watches you leave.

Yeah, know what you mean. At least here they make sure the contractors don't go in the first place.

That's why I like my place of employment. Whether or not I'm invited to the meeting/party/etc., one of the nice secretaries usually brings me cake or cookies or whatever was being passed around there. And if they don't, then the leftovers are usually sitting in the break room for me to gorge on. :)

Yeah, I suppose I agree with you...but you're right; at least they tell the contractors in advance that they're not invited.

I'm thinking one of my coworkers will bring me some food.

Speaking of food, I was given a HUGE cake yesterday since the owner is leaving to LA and can't et it in time. It's 3/4th of her graduation cake.

A variation of this that irked me was when our company had free flu shots. The first time they offered this, two years ago, it was free for everyone, contractor or FTE alike. This year, right as someone was about to get one, an HR person stepped in and said that it was only for employees. You'd think the gain in productivity would be worth the $20 or whatever for the shot, heh.
