McCain's reaction to the blowback on his confusion is a counter to the counterpunch, and of course resorts - as these things always do - to innuendo. Not a shred of evidence has been introduced to show any quid-pro-quo or anthing else improper. In fact, all of the evidence to date suggests that the entire transaction was completely on the up-and-up, with only the fact that it was a guy already suspected of being shady being an issue. Prove otherwise.
I think we are right to assume that if Paddy Fitz couldn't find anything substantive and crooked linking Obama and Rezko, it isn't there. Fitz has shown no reluctance to go after big fish.
Now, if McCain wants to make this about "judgment" in selecting people with whom one associates, I think Obama should welcome that, as McCain's list of cringe-worthy cronies is long and well documented, starting of course with one
Charles Keating.
I think McCain brings it into play himself everytime he tries to make insinuations about Obama and Rezko. Obama has never had to be "cleared" of anything or warned about poor judgement. If McCain wants to play this "associations" game with Obama, Obama should bring up not only the Keating 5, but dig around for every scummy lobbyist and sleazeball political connection John McCain has ever rubbed dicks with. Obama should also prominently display that picture of McCain with his face lovingly nestled in the bosom of of GW Bush.
As long as we are at this "sleazy" level of discourse, lets level the playing field..
The McCain camp can keep trying to tie Obama's home purchase to his association with Rezko as long as they're prepared to deal with the fact that Cindy McCain's father, James Hensley, was a convicted felon. But more importantly, his wealth came from his Budweiser distributorship which he received as a result from his relationship with
Kemper Marley.
So, for those who want to reach beyond what has reported to be the truth on Obama's home purchase, I'm entirely comfortable with tying McCain to seven houses purchased with money made through an association with a true slimeball.
At least Rezko didn't blow-up the reporters investigating him.
