Dude... the world is a totally fucked up place anyways... and politics and politicians are just full of it... NOONE i mean NOONE is going to do anything for the general ppl. this thread is terrible... why is being rich a bad thing? why should we make our politicians feel guilty for it? it's not like Mrs. McCain's family made their income doing anything illegal.

Don't be silly, when a D is rich he is an elitist an out of touch. When an R is rich? Uh, well...

Oh see it always seems when a D is rich(and how many of those politicans are poor?) he is an elitist that is in touch with the common man. When a republican is rich he is in touch with evil corporations.

Right, don't you see how stupid both are?

And of course politicians are often rich... not hard to understand why.

The point is, the elitist label is little more than stupid labeling which the sheep are eager to guzzle down.

They are probably all elitist. Afterall they are making more money than most people can dream about. Labels are labels. For me it doesnt matter. I cant fathom how any of them are in truely touch with the poor and middle class in this country. They simply dont live the lifestyle.

Part of the problem is that it is basically impossible to attain a position of real power in this country without wealth.

In our 2 party system I'll take the lesser of 2 evils and IMO that would be the (D)'s.

I agree that this kind of stuff happens a lot, but to believe that this is all that it is made out of is ludicrous. There are plenty of politicians out there who are trying to make decisions which they believe will benefit the country rather than just themselves. These same politicians also act like greedy little trolls just like the rest of them too. It all boils down to a case by case basis. Some cases you will see them being very honest and doing the right thing. Other cases you will not see that. The real unfortunate part of it all is that many of the dishonest greedy decisions are heavily influenced by the American people themselves. One could say that many of these decisions are forced on to the politicians thanks to the endless greedy nature of Americans and how we think and act. To act otherwise is considered "political suicide" and so they pick what they feel is the lesser of two evils. There are too few Americans out there these days which are looking after their country before they look after themselves anymore. I believe that if many more thought that way...and I mean REALLY thought that way (not just the I will only be generous when my stocks are up kind of way) then this country would be much better off.

Of course, who would ever want to blame themselves as being the source of the corruption? God forbid right!? No way that my greed for more and more money and bullshit is the root cause of a lot of the evil. It certainly must be the other guy's greed. Ya, it's gotta be him instead. That jerk!

Well to be fair, there are some politicians who weren't exactly born with a silver spoon in their mouths. But those are few and far between.

Someone should do a study to determine how many years it takes for someone from a humble background who later became a millionaire to become an out of touch douchebag.

If we could come up with a hard number then we would be better equipped to make these types of judgments.

Is McCain really who should be in charge of this country? I know I'll get flamed for this but the reason he is considered a war hero because of being a POW is a bunch of baloney. The truth is that he just wasn't a very good pilot.

Text

OK, so a couple of those weren't his fault. Subtract them and he still lost more aircraft than most military pilots in their careers.

I'll see your Rezko and raise you a Keating 5. Does McCain really want to go down this road?.

Rezko arranged for the Obamas to buy a little extra land for their Chicago house. Cost to US taxpayers: $0.00.

Obama funneled taxpayer money to Rezko as a state legislator. The reason Rezko was being called a slumlord is because Obama helped pass legislation privatizing the management of government housing in Chicago. Rezko then received favors from Obama in the form of contracts to run these government housing projects even though he never had any sort of management in this area. As a result, these housing projects were run-down and mismanaged to the point that some were condemned.

Boston Globe article on this subject

Yes, of couse Rezko cost taxpayers a lot of money. But I think it was IL taxpayers.

And the figure BMWetc quotes for Keating is not just Keating's bank (i.e., hyper inflated figure IIRC). And the S&L fiasco had far more to with regulation, or lack thereof, tyan any thing else. Essentially they were allowed to speculate in R/E; when R/E values went down, so did the S&Ls.

But be prepared to see more Rezko. He's going to be sentenced before the election, so he'll be in the news again.

While I don't believe the real estate deal resulted in Obama getting money/bribe, it's still gonna sound bad and that will likely be effective with at least some undecided voters. When you're all about being "a different kind of new politician" etc, getting caught up in sleazy looking deals with convicted felons badly undermines your claim.

No, but being a POW does explain why you don't know how many houses your wife owns:

Brian Rogers(McCain Spokesman on McCain)"This is a guy who lived in one house for five and a half years -- in prison," referring to the prisoner of war camp that McCain was in during the Vietnam War.

and this gem:

"In terms of who's an elitist, I think people have made a judgment that John McCain is not an arugula-eating, pointy headed professor-type based on his life story."

LOL, so here comes the attacks on Obama's intelligence.....as a negative.

Why does the GOP hate learnin'?

The truth is that McCain isn't out of touch with "ordinary people" because he's rich, he's out of touch with his own domestic arrangements because he cares little about material things, and for many years has devoted his extraordinary energies not to enjoying his wife's money, but to serving the American people. Given the number of nights he's spent in hotels or on military bases over the last few years, it's no wonder he hasn't seen much of his wife's condos.

hah.

I can relate, though. For example, if a reporter asked me how many ties I own, there's no way I could answer. Just like McCain, I'd tell him he has to ask my wife. Likewise if someone wants to know how many Wii games my kids have.

Hehehe, I dont think it helps the writers cause when comparing the amount of tie's he owns (presumably a large amount) to the amount of homes McCains owns (presumably a large enough amount for McCain to forget)

ie McCain comes from the class of American citizens that owns homes like most ordinary folks own ties. Or that he owns as many homes as most kids have Wii games. :p

nahhh....he's just joeblow American...

But of course the writer is saying now that McCain is like Jesus Christ, he gives up all of his worldly possessions (including his wifes 100+ million fortune) to live as a hermit flying from hotel to hotel (I guess maybe the holiday inn express?) and from base to base.

god bless him, truly!!

that link was good for a friday afternoon chuckle!

I want all of the Christian right voters to know McCain's wife made her fortune selling
"the demon alcohol" to Americans.

Neighbor 2 houses down - this house is freakin' humongous - Ridiculously long driveway for said house - and really big back yard
My apartment building 1 block away

Edit:
If anyone was curious, the lake is over 10 blocks away from this location and this is about 5 blocks north of the University of Chicago campus.

Thanks for the pictures! Yeah, when Obama gets to McCain's age he'd probably own more than 1 home also.

Probably. Even still though, I've heard people calling Obama's house a mansion or heard people say that it has a lake view. Just took those to kind of show that it isn't nearly the nicest home on the block and it certainly isn't a disproportionate size to the rest of the homes in the area. Additionally, it's not just homes in the area, plenty of apartment buildings (both nicer looking and run-down). The Rezko strip of land is right on the corner. Large enough for a small sized home, but compared to the other lots, it's really small.

On a side note, I'm probably on a bunch of SS cameras. There were a bunch of inconspicuous black SUVs parked outside. Plus there was a guy in the white, beat-up car (in the driveway) watching people.

I found that McCain Anti-Obama Celebrity / Paris Hilton commercial to be particularly ironic, since McCain has also run ads about his closeness to Ronald Reagen... who was a former movie star. And he was glad to be endorsed by Arnold Schwarzenegger... former movie star.

And really: how can one become elected to President of the United States without being well known enough to get votes?
