this thread is terrible... why is being rich a bad thing? why should we make our politicians feel guilty for it? it's not like Mrs. McCain's family made their income doing anything illegal.

Don't be silly, when a D is rich he is an elitist an out of touch. When an R is rich? Uh, well...

Oh see it always seems when a D is rich(and how many of those politicans are poor?) he is an elitist that is in touch with the common man. When a republican is rich he is in touch with evil corporations.

Right, don't you see how stupid both are?

And of course politicians are often rich... not hard to understand why.

The point is, the elitist label is little more than stupid labeling which the sheep are eager to guzzle down.

They are probably all elitist. Afterall they are making more money than most people can dream about. Labels are labels. For me it doesnt matter. I cant fathom how any of them are in truely touch with the poor and middle class in this country. They simply dont live the lifestyle.

Possibly, but it would be smart not to provide them with the material.

The Mc Cain camp already had the material. They were going to play it at anytime.
Personally, I think it's good that the Rezko card is being aired now.

To me elitist has very little to do with them being rich (all politicians at that level are wealthy), and a lot more to do with the idea that the person thinks they know better than you do what is good for you. There are plenty on both sides of the isle I consider elitist under that definition.

McCain should have replied that his wife owned several houses and condominiums and that she was nice enough to allow him to live in one of them. Her real estate ownership probably doesn't really concern him, but how the heck could you not know how many houses you own? I find it hard to believe that he has any inkling of what most families are going through in this economy. I suppose for some they actually believe that he gives a rat's behind about them.

Yeah it was coming one way or the other. The upside is its now, we've mostly already heard it, and the trial earlier this year cleared Obama from wrongdoing. Maybe something a bit stupid, but everyone knows Chicago politics is dirty and if that's all he's done he's prolly a saint. Its not like he was admonished bu the Senate or anything... lol

There is tons of shit on McCain and dirty Senate deals, stretched truth or otherwise, McCain has now opened everything up to be aired. Resko, Resko, a thousand times Resko isn't going to cut it.

Sigh...does any of this really matter that much? I don't care how big Obama's house is or whether or not he worked the system in his favor to get it. Nor do I care that McCain owns 8 houses and can't remember them all at one particular moment in time. The only thing this thread is doing is throwing fuel into the fire. Those who dislike Obama will continue to dislike him and those who dislike McCain will continue to dislike him too.

I am again seeing lot of hostility against McCain. OP linked to Keating 5. Can someone please enlighten us with more such links, if not PLEASE stop making vague baseless accusations against McCain.

Also stop making fun of his age, discrimination based on age and race are equally offensive. ppl jump off their seats if someone says something against OB's race or religion so please dont poke fun at McCain's age and post some facts that matter.

I guess it depends on how you define "working the system". If by working the system you mean "took a sweet deal in exchange for influence in the senate", I'm not OK with that. Otherwise, yeah, it doesn't matter if his house is big or not. Who cares, both these guys are wealthy and all politicians at that level are.

All politicians take part in at least some form of less favorable deals which impact their influences and power too. To claim that Obama is a saint in this area is quite foolish, but to believe that any sort of sign that he has taken part in such things in the past automatically means he will be a shitty president is foolish too. One needs to consider the big picture and these kinds of articles are little more than red herrings.

I don't "pick sides". I consider every issue on a case by case basis and everything is subject to change in my mind. I don't like nonsense like this article because I feel it distracts too many Americans from the parts which matter most. They are far too easily influenced by bullshit which is why candidates are forced to feed us bullshit if they want to get elected. That pisses me off. I only accept it because I have no faith that it will change. That won't stop me from expressing my dislike for it though.

Huh? McCain admits his involvement in the 'Keating 5' scandal was a mistake... LINK From that link: "McCain was cleared of wrongdoing by a Senate investigation, but he was deemed to have used "poor judgment." He calls his involvement with Keating "the worst mistake of my life.""

Disagree. While discrimination may be a bad thing the reality is McCain is older than any other presidential candidate and his age and health are very much a factor in his capability to perform the duties of POTUS. Race and religion are not.

A lot of the homes in the Hyde Park/Kenwood area sell for at least $1 million. But they are also really big. I'll look into getting some better shots of Obama's house and his neighbors homes (especially the one that 100x nicer than his) this weekend.

Edit:
Obama's House: _MG_6328.jpg (the person that you probably can't see in the SUV was watching everyone).

How do you know the guy in the SUV isn't casing the joint ...... it is Chicago after all :)

If you do any further investigation your own conclusion may come up differently, he's innocent just like how O.J Simpson is innocent.

I'll see your Rezko and raise you a Keating 5. Does McCain really want to go down this road?.

Rezko arranged for the Obamas to buy a little extra land for their Chicago house. Cost to US taxpayers: $0.00.

McCain arranged for special treatment for Charles Keating in the Savings & Loan scandal, in which over 700 institutions failed. Cost to US taxpayers: $120,000,000,000.00 (in 1980s dollars).

McCain's scandal led to him being issued a formal reprimand on the floor of the US Senate.

Which issue truly shows bad ethical judgment? The completely legal business transaction, or the shady influence - selling that led to US citizens losing life's savings?

If this is the way McCain wants it, Obama should hit this hard back

In a perfect world, the campaign would be about the issues. That all went out the window when McCain started using images of Paris Hilton and Moses and it actually started to get traction. the American public has shown that they prefer their politics to be about trivial shit. Don't blame Obama for giving the mob what it wants. Blame the mob for being so effing stupid. Blame the circus barkers (the media) for only talking about the freak show.

This will play with the crowd who already thinks Obama is a Secret Muslim/Radical Militant/Angry Black Man. In other words, McCain's Base.

To be honest, I don't see the Obama ad as genuine "mud-slinging."

McCain dug himself this hole. Obama is simply showing us the picture, so to speak.

Obama's ad doesn't take anything out of context, doesn't stretch the truth, doesn't distort the facts or the context of the McCain gaffe.

While I agree this isn't the most substantive argument one could make against McCain, it seems perfectly reasonable, especially since McCain & the GOP has tried to paint Obama as a latte-drinking effete Liberal Elitist. It's a "Pot, meet Kettle" moment. And it resonates with the hundreds of thousands of Americans.

Rezko arranged for the Obamas to buy a little extra land for their Chicago house. Cost to US taxpayers: $0.00.

Obama funneled taxpayer money to Rezko as a state legislator. The reason Rezko was being called a slumlord is because Obama helped pass legislation privatizing the management of government housing in Chicago. Rezko then received favors from Obama in the form of contracts to run these government housing projects even though he never had any sort of management in this area. As a result, these housing projects were run-down and mismanaged to the point that some were condemned.

Well said.

The simple fact is, lots of people want Obama to start "fighting back" and by that they mean sinking to the level that McCain has, and it's because that is what America wants to see, a fight. I bet that if Obama choose not to release negative ads he would be considered weak, and McCain strong. I bet if Obama called out to McCain to try and keep this election clean and positive he would be labeled a sissy and McCain a strong leader. And America would buy into it.

We screw ourselves as voters over and over and over again.
