More than likely it's just a cyst. I had the same thing happen to me a few years ago. A quick surgery and it was gone and I was fine.

Finally had the Ear, Nose, Throat specialist look at it today. He thinks its a benign tumor of the salivia glands but he's not sure. So that means I have to get it x-rayed and talk to him again. This won't happen until June 1st.

He also mentioned cutting it out and sending it to a lab...

Remember, the fear of pain is much worse than pain itself. Don't worry about it. When/if bad news arrives, you'll handle it.

Damn you! I am now so tempted to look even though it's going to be nasty.

Anyway, OP, good luck, and even if it is something, it can't be too bad if you don't smoke or anything. I'm sure it can be removed.

UPDATE: Yeah, the pics were gross. Thx Tsaico :)

They can get incredibly bad. I had one in highschool years ago that I had to have outpatient surgery to correct. It got all puss filled, nasty and horribly painful. The doc numbed my big toe, cut the nail off and ripped the in grown part out of the nail bed. Thank goodness for digital blocks.

haha. yeah, the next update probably won't come until at least June 1st though, after I go to my appointments.

oh, and Thursday afternoon I go back in for my ingrown toenail...they'll probably have to cut it out. luckily it isn't too sore.

i did it once. what a terrible idea. he numbed it, sliced it open and snipped at the nail before wrapping it and prescribing me antibioitics

for $100. meh to that

now i have either 4 ibuprofen or a couple shots of liquor and a quick, hot shower to soften up the nail and i just pry a little and snip it myself. theres no "recovery" time since i wasnt sliced open and the booze is good ;)

um...i'm definitely not a hypochondriac. i rarely go to the doctors and this lump was found by the dentist and was recommended that i get it checked out. otherwise i wouldn't even know it was there. i hate going to see a doctor.

got the CAT scan done. The 1st time I went through the guy told me not to move but once it started, I wanted to laugh because it just looked like some cheesy special effects from some old sci-fi movie. lol

after that i went back to the original doctor and showed him the scans results. its not going into the bone or eating away at the bone so he said that was good. he was going to do a biopsy but decided not to. He forgot the lump was under the skin and said he could do it but there's a chance he could leave a hole in my mought there so he referred me to an oral surgeon instead. i go in for that on Monday.

sigh...i feel like i keep getting a runaround or something because the last few appointments where so far apart in terms of time and now i gotta go see another doctor yet...its a bit annoying

You're lucky, I had one of these when I was around 25 and it did eat into the bone. I never knew I had a problem until I got a tooth ache and discovered the teeth were movable. The surgeon found a hole big enough to put his thumb through and I lost five teeth thank to that. Keep us informed and good luck!

first time I've heard of oral cancer. I guess my day's quota of learning something new is fulfilled at 8am.

I never felt it until they pointed it out and i can feel it now with my tongue and finger. its not noticeable unless i move my tongue to the top and back of my mouth though.
it feels pretty big to me compared to the right side.

they told me to have my physician check it. luckily, i already have an appointment for something else today, an ingrown toenail, so they can check it today.

I don't smoke and I don't chew tobacco so I know that's not a cause.

pontifex, does this mean I have to get my weiner checked? I don't have any bumps. Please help! :brokenheart::(

if you were rich or famous you wouldn't have to wait to get into see docs and get this wrapped up. it is annoying since you just want to get to the bottom of it and move on.

i'm still going with all is going to be ok. :)
