I just got back from the dentist. My teeth and gums are perfect, but they did an oral cancer check and noticed this lump on the left side of my soft pallet. The skin color looks the same as the other side, there's just a lump or bump there.

I never felt it until they pointed it out and i can feel it now with my tongue and finger. its not noticeable unless i move my tongue to the top and back of my mouth though.
it feels pretty big to me compared to the right side.

they told me to have my physician check it. luckily, i already have an appointment for something else today, an ingrown toenail, so they can check it today.

I don't smoke and I don't chew tobacco so I know that's not a cause.

best wishes... don't get too worried before you talk to your doc. (i know its easier said than done.) :)

Pinky the Prophet called me this morning and told me you would post this thread. He told me to tell you that it's not cancer and not to worry.
And he waived the charges so no worries.

you go to doctors for ingrown nails?

They can get NASTY.

I concur with this.

Same here, they can pwn your feet in ways you never knew were possible.

I too know from experience. Went to a podiatrist and he numbed up each big toe, cut out a sliver about 1/8th inch wide where they would grow into the skin all the way to the start of the nail, and put some sort of solution on it to keep it from ever growing back in that area. Best copay I ever spent.

I fear that this experience may be in my future. I have some big-toe toenail problems all of a sudden.

Yes, they can quite horrible. Just put in ingrown toenail into google and then search images.

But as for the OP's bump, is it soft? I am thinking it more likely a cyst or something along those lines. Good luck though.

I get a bump there every once in a while and is goes away for some reason. I don't know if it happens when I am sick or what but it has been happening for a long time. I wouldn't worry about it.

make sure he either looks in your mouth first - or washes his hands vigorously after taking care of that ingrown toenail ;)

Hopefully it's nothing!
But about your toe.. I *highly* suggest going to a podiatrist to take care of it! They do those types of operations all the time compared to a general doctor. I've had it done once by a podiatrist and the whole thing went smoothly. I've known people who've had ingrown toenails removed by a general doctor and they keep growing back, so they had to keep going back to the doctor. Do yourself a favor and get it done right the first time by a podiatrist!

I had this done too. It's actually a fairly strong acid they put in there to kill the cuticle to make sure the nail never grows back. It was the best thing ever when I had that done, 9 years later and it hasn't started growing back.

Best of luck to you, OP. Even in the very very very unlikely chance it is cancer, oral cancer is almost always easily treated with surgery.

Don't start mourning just yet, it is nothing. Everyone has a few benign growths here and there. If you feel around your head long enough, you're likely to find a fleshy bump that doesn't reflect the opposite side. Often small so you won't easily notice it, but that's life.

Ummm, wow, this actually kinda scares me now. After getting my wisdom teeth removed last month I have notice this knot on the inside of my cheek next to the place where one of my wisdom teeth were. It's hard when I press on it with my tounge. Should I make an appointment to have it checked?

OP dont worry.

but question to you all, do they normally do this check or they check it when they see something weird. shouldn't this come up via xray too?

funny how this thread got derailed to a discussion about toenails.

anyway, yeah, i had them do the kill the root thing on part of one of my toenails. surprisingly, that whole experience was FAR less painful than when i had my normal doctor just cut the offending bit off. the foot doctor caused me no pain despite also cutting the offending part off (again), and killing the root. he sprayed some kind of cold crap on my toe first before he used the novocain, so i never felt anything.

I actually didn't see a doctor today, she was a nurse practitioner. Not sure how they compare to doctors. Anyway, she checked out the lump and referred me to an ear nose and throat specialist. She said it was soft so she isn't extremely worried. If it was hard, she would have been a bit more worried about it.

I have an appointment for May 7th.

I've been to a doctor once before about a an ingrown toenail and they cut it out. She didn't think it was infected but prescribed some anti-bacterial ointment for me and told me to soak it with epsom salt a few times a day. After a week or two I go back and if they need to they'll cut it out.

This is the most I've been to a doctor in probably the last 5 years. I'm falling apart in my old age (27)! lol

oh, and since this is ATOT, the nurse practitioner was HOT! sorry, no pics though.

I can't believe they make you wait so long. Waiting would kill me.I had this rare cancer (dermatofibroma sarcoma protuberans) on my chest/shoulder area that doctors blew off as a scar under my skin for 12 years. Now I have a scar the size of my hand (smaller now due to a few plastic surgeries). Waiting for the result was enough to kill me.
