oh God! COMPUSA trying to buy out Circuit City.

hehe...if that goes through, that means that I'd have 3 CompUSAs in a square mile near me. Maybe they'll all just fight for the territory. 😉

The Circuit City in my town is GHETTO. I am afraid to go in there, seriously. The store is in bad shape and the clientelle consists of the most scary people you can imagine. What is weird is that this store is right next to a very nice, clean retail area. Very weird.

If this goes through, I wonder if CC will start using NORMAL SIZED RECEIPTS instead of 1 foot long receipts when you buy a $9.99 surge protector.

I always think I'm signing a car title or the deed to a home, CC's receipts are super friggin' long.

Super wide too. The only redeeming thing about their receipts is the return policy is on the front. (Supposed to help with the dumb asses returning stuff)

Exactly, try stuffing that huge ass mofo into your wallet ... I dare ya!

*glances at Ross's avatar and pictures him with a purse crammed full of CC receipts*

Hey you got a problem with cross-dressing Ferengi's???

😛

Best Buy carries crap bottom of the line merchandise. Circuit City at least carries mid-line stuff.

BB blows for quality merch.

Hey wv - which DFW CC are you talking about? (I'm assuming Arlington or Irving)

the mexican who owns compusa also owned telemex and has a lot of $$$

I had thought that they were affiliated at one point, from back in the mid 90's when they both started popping up at the same time and Compusa was called ComputerCity. I guess I was wrong?

i hope they merge, then go bankrupt.

that will leave bestbuy having nearly a monopoly thus driving their prices up. no thank you

Best Buy hasn't even been a "good" buy for a long time. Their prices are already up.

bahahahaha.....thats so untrue it's hilarious
Back your statement up. Let's look at home audio. Circuit City carries Onkyo and Harmon Kardon. Best Buy carries...?

I've worked at both places. Circuit City carries higher quality stuff then Best Buy.

That was a generalization 😛 Computer components for example - CC's selection is crap compared to BB's. I guess each one has better brands in different sections. Speaking of audio - CC's cable selection blows. They just push that overpriced pos Monster crap and have many one or two RCA "regular" cables, for both audio and video. I was hooking up TV out from my computer and I had a $10 GC from CC - I couldn't find jack, so I went across the street and bought it at Best Buy.

Who wants a computer component from Worst Buy anyway? Those can be bought for a lot cheaper online. Its the big ticket items that people like to buy locally.

Not really; selection, yes, Best Buy might have more. Quality, they are lower. Some manufacturers specifically tailor products for Best Buy; keep the price low and the quality decent. Try looking up some model numbers you find on Best Buy on a manufacturer's site. You might be surprised.

Any TV Best Buy has Circuit City has the same model or better. Same goes for audio, car-audio, or camcorders. Its just the way it is. Circuit City has the niche of mid-level consumer electronics. Best Buy has the niche of entry-level to low-mid-level.

It's called rebates. Go look in Hot Deals. Tell me how many BB/CC computer part deals you see. I personally hate rebates but many of the computer components after rebates are far less than their online counterpart prices.

To reply to your edit about cables...

For cables, CC carries Monster exclusively. Best Buy has their own brand plus Monster. Their own brand used to be called "Solutions". They'd sell them for $19.99 or up and the price after employee discount was anywhere from $0.75 - $1.50. Keep in mind the employee discount was 5% over cost.

Monster owns both companies though essentially for cables. CC does carries 3 versions of Monster though, THX cert (lowest), 2 (mid), 3 (best). All cables are overpriced though, no matter where you go unless you go to a wholesaler or something maybe like RadioShack (though they're still making bank of you)

Ehh nm you're right - I was thinking selection instead of quality. Thing is CC doesn't push themselves as a mid-level consumer electronics store. That's why they're going down the hole

Ahh that explains why. I just saw rack after frickin' rack of Monster cables.....something like $20 for a s-video cable? $25 for a y splitter for audio?

Yea, they are going down the hole for whatever reason. They don't have the marketing power of Best Buy plus their name doesn't help them (Circuit City < Best Buy). They need a shake-up, a re-thinking, or a buy out...but not from CrapUSA.
