Doesn't matter the explanation. The general consensus is that $180 is too high. MS PR can explain it till their blue in the face and it doesn't matter if they are being 100% truthful or 100% BSing.

In addition, anybody who shops around at all realizes that's a pile of horsecrap for an excuse. Looking at Newegg I see 120GB external 2.5" drives for as low as $100. And those are more complicated devices than the MS attachment, they have to have additional PCBs for USB circuitry on board. (I'm assuming that the Xbox drive is just a drive in a fancy plastic case, and and the drive controllers etc. are in the Xbox itself.)

Edit: $95 for this WD Passport 120GB external.

Screw MS, the gougers. I can't wait until the 360 is fully hacked.

I've been playing Virtua Tennis 3 for the last few days. This game is a lot of fun and so addictive! I had people come over and played who never played or watched tennis before and they were hooked.

Those of you planning on buying an elite at launch, what stores are you looking to buy it at?

I really want to buy it at Costco for the warranty, but I don't know if they sell consoles the first day they're released or not. Any ideas? Thanks.

Forgive me, I'm anxious. :p

But if they don't have it on launch day, I'll survive. I was hoping someone could tell me if I'd have to wait a few days or a month.

On TVs, Computers, and possibly other items not coming to mind at the moment: Yes, the warranty is definitely now shorter. However, video game consoles are still covered under the old lifetime warranty AFAIK.

So I've never been into guitars or music much, but i'm hooked on Guitar Hero 2 now. Anyways I've been reading a lot how "hammer-on's" and "pull offs" work well in the game. I have no clue what those are. I looked them up on Wiki but i'm still lost. Anyone care to dumb-it-down for me and explain what hammer-ons and pull offs are, in guitar hero terms?

i just learned what they are today, baysically its when you can just click the colored "fret"(green, red, orange, blue, yellow)instead of strumming and clicking the fret.

hammer-ons and pull offs, are not introduced into the game untill, medium level, but as you choose a harder difficulty they become more usefull.

baysically its like a slur, on a horn, in a slurn you keep "Blowing" and simply play the notes rather then blowing for every single not.

for example-

hope this helps.

Ok that makes sense then, but am I thinking of it right? do they only work when it's like, an example, a long row of green, all connected, you can just hit "Green button" again after strumming the first time and not strum with each green? Like this row Here ? Thanks

No no no, they only work when they the fret icon (the colord circles? on the screen) has a solid white tip instead a wring of black, its truly very hard to explain, use the tutorial in game, it makes it much easier, plus u'll get a free achievement .

pic for explanation

They have to be different notes in order for it to work.

Joystiq

After awaiting an official response all week on what Red Octane plans to do about defective guitars some customers received with their copies of Xbox 360's Guitar Hero II, we've received from several tipsters the responses they received from Red Octane. The response brings up nothing but more questions.

Red Octane writes to those with complaints about the guitar, "We have isolated this issue to two model numbers that can be found on the guitar's packaging. The numbers are 95065 and 95055. We are asking that customers who puchased [sic] their items from a retailer perform an exchange with that respective store (for a model number other than the defective two listed above). Customer's [sic] who purchased through our online story [sic] can complete an rma request for their defective item and we will exchange it for a fully function [sic] guitar controller. We do apologize for the inconvenience and will resole [sic] these matters."

Joystiq has been interviewing people all week trying to make sense of this entire issue as Red Octane is less than forthcoming with information. For example, here at Joystiq, we have a 95055 box, with a 95065 sticker placed over the UPC (originally 95055) and a 95065 guitar in the box - everything works fine so far (except star power activation is far less responsive than the PS2 guitar). Over at sister site Xbox 360 Fanboy, where they received a broken controller, they had a 95067 (that is not a typo) box with a 95065 guitar inside. At this point Red Octane acknowledges "defective" models as 95065 and 95055. If you have a defective model guitar, go ahead and return it with Red Octane's blessing.

In "real life" guitar, hammer ons are pressing down on the fret (ie, playing the note) after you've played the open string, so you play the open string note and then whatever note you play by pressing on the fret.

Pulloffs are playing a note with your finger on the fret and releasing, playing both the first note (fret) plus the open string.

The only example I can think off of the top of my head of a super easily identifiable hammer on/pull off combo is the solo on Sum 41 - In Too Deep. There's plenty of other examples but that's just super obvious during the solo

I look at that thing and the hideous Jaguar pad comes to mind.

As for the spring update leak..meh..nothing I care about at all. I don't use MSN messenger so that feature is useless to me. I am not downloading with the console off but thats because my speed is good but I could see how this is a good thing for those with slow net speed. Hopefully those who do an all nighter download won't wake up to the red rings of death. :p

It would be nice if I could download while playing a game. Yea, you can download while playing a xbla game but not a disc based game. Would also be nice if users can put a different background pic for each blade for personal themes.

Surprise surprise. I got a defective GH2. The green button just decided to randomly stop working. It seems like everything I buy for the xbox 360, including the system itself, is just some of the shoddiest put together electronic garbage I've ever come across in my entire life. This is pathetic.

My friend is on his FOURTH (!!!) 360. Just ridiculous. He doesn't seem to care because he has some gamestop warranty so he can just bring a busted console to them and he'll get a brand new one off the shelf.

The spring update is going to rock! Awesome updates indeed, plus the qwerty keyboard attachment looks pretty cool. If it can be had for $30 or less, I'll definitely pick one up, although I see the thing costing atleast $50.

do they normally include an update on backwards compatibility for old xbox games (the ones not yet compatible) with these updates?
