Xbox Live, Xbox.com and the Xbox forums will be undergoing scheduled maintenance on Tuesday March 27th (next week) from 0000 to 1400 PT. As a result of this maintenance, Xbox Live, Xbox.com and the Xbox forums will be unavailable during this time. I thought I'd give you enough time to plan next weeks gaming schedule. What to do while you can?t hop on Xbox Live? Xbox.com has you covered with this list. This is purely ?back end? work that we scheduled months ago. This is not a dashboard update?that will happen later this Spring.

Same day that Shivering Isles is to be released.

a 14hr update??? wtf, nothing should take 14hrs - 2-3max

Major Nelson's site is getting hammered. He said there is one more issue they have to fix before they flip the switch back on.

Two exclusives from MS in the next two days, to be announced at midnight. As pointed out in the comments, there is no guarantee that either or both of them are 360-related, but I believe the smart money is on at least one of them being the 360 Elite announcement.

Well, the "Elite" has officially been announced, along with a $479.99 pricepoint, as well as the price of a standalone 120GB hdd.....$179.99. I officially eat my words from above. Even though I said Microsoft wasn't stupid enough to sell it at $199.99, and technically being right, that's still way too high, so I'll consider myself wrong.

Where did you see those prices?

ALso, I officially eat my words now that it's finally been announced by MS!

I still am very shocked at how stupid MS is to put out a console at that price however.

Well, the good news on the 120GB HDD is that it comes with a cable and software to transfer all your data from your existing 20GB HDD to the new 120GB HDD.

eBay to be flooded with 20GB HDDs now.

I'm officially trading up. Little surprised this isn't Limtied Edition for now. It will make for one hell of April NPD.

Bad business decision IMO. While its a nice upgrade for the technically inclined (i.e. AT, AVS, etc. type crowds), a larger hard drive and hdmi output means practically nothing to the billions of people currently without 360's... the market Microsoft should be targeting. Already, Sony has shown the $400+ market for consoles is for fanbois, rich kids, and idiots. I could see this entering at the $400 price point with the premium moving to $300 and the core going away, but this just has flop written all over it, which is a shame, as Microsoft's been pretty smart so far with the 360.

Wow, way to go MS. Way to alienate the early adopters with HDTVs. What are we going to do now? We have this 360 that we got the 1st week of launch that does not have a 120GB HDD or an HDMI out. Way to go. $180 120GB HDD if we just want to upgrade, what kind of upgrade is that? Way to go.

I'm not clear on how early adopters with HDTVs are alienated. The Premium and Core 360 still outputs in HD....

More content for Live Video Marketplace on the way

Microsoft is announcing several new content deals.

Paramount Pictures joins the high definition online fray, adding Braveheart, Team America: World Police, World Trade Center and South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut to Microsoft's service. Warner Bros. Home Entertainment also commits, promising to release their direct-to-video films (in HD) on Xbox Live in tandem with the DVD editions. These include Sublime and Babylon 5: The Lost Tales.

Others adding to the growing store of digital content are:

* A&E network -- providing Dog the Bounty Hunter, King of Cars, Driving Force, the disturbing Criss Angel Mindfreak and the even more disturbing Gene Simmons Family Jewels.
* ADV Films -- catering to the anime fans.
* National Geographic -- bringing much needed realism onto your console of digital silliness.
* New Line Cinema -- giving us Snakes on a Plane, Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny, "plus top titles including Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me and Magnolia." Apparently, the first few movies are non-top in nature.
* TotalVid -- packed with sports which are decidedly extreme.

I was wondering when they were going to get around to adding anime. You'd think the demographics lined up perfectly.

Way to go MS, releasing a new operating system, alienating the users of XP. Thanks Apple, my iPod can't play video. Thanks Sony for the PS3, now my PS2 is obsolete!

When you bought the 360, you got exactly what you paid for. Quit complaining.

I could care less about the black color. What I am talking about is the 120 GB HDD that I will need for IPTV.

Yup, this is the exact reason that when all these rumors were floating around abou the Elite, I was always skeptical. It just makes absolutely no sense for MS to do this from a business perspective.
