Don't spread rumors. Nothing has been confirmed, and I can guarantee that Microsoft isn't stupid enough to try and sell a 120GB for $200 retail.

Well, they do sell a 20GB HDD for $99 retail ;)

the 20 GB hard drive may be way overpriced at $99, but like blurredvision I highly doubt it will be as high as $200.

I"d say they will keep it at $99 but no more than $150. I mean, why would they price a 120 GB hard drive the same price as the HD-DVD drive?

I downloaded The Departed as my first HD rental to watch tonight off the video marketplace. Damn are the movies expensive...

Depending on what the hard drive alone would cost it could be worth it to buy a new one and sell my current one. Plus im a fan of black. (dumb reason i know)

If they actually release the 120GB drive, you won't have to buy a new MS drive. You could buy a WD internal drive and mod it -- it is possible already, except sizes are limited to 20GB because the "size code" (don't know the technical term) hasn't been decoded yet. So if MS releases a bigger drive, almost immediately it will be possible to get 120GB drives for much cheaper.

Doesn't matter. It's all about perception. People bought the 20GB for $99 because it's an iffy price point, and compared to the memory card, it was a bargain. There were no other options for Core system buyers. $199 takes it above and beyond, putting a small hard drive attachment near the price of an entire Wii system.

For any of you non-believers out their the evidence doesn't get much stronger than Dean T;

Microsoft To Announce The Xbox 360 Elite

As far as gaming journalist go, well if you don't know who this guy is he wrote the book(s) on the Xbox and has always been a major insider for MS. With that said, the last major announcement he broke before it happened was right before CES 2007, he stated IPTV functions were coming and MS hit the 10.4 million shipped number. The story was actually taken off the net once it first hit and then put back up the day after the announcement. See story here;

Xbox 360 Crosses 10 Million Mark, Xbox 360 To Serve As IPTV Set-Top Box

This new 360 announcement is right around the corner imo, March 29th being a very good possibility. So, purebeast, what say you now?

Ah yes, this just in, this is in the bag.

Microsoft Accidentally Confirms Xbox 360 Elite

In the XNA Game Studio Express forums at MSDN, an XNA Framework Developer has accidentally confirmed the existance of the unannounced Elite Edition of the Xbox 360.

In a forum post that asks "Will the HDMI output on the revised 360 require any code changes ", Microsoft software enginner Shawn Hargreaves responded that "no changes required" for existing XNA code. This pretty much confirms the new Xbox 360 model that is rumored to come with a built-in HDMI port.

Xbox 360 Elite to be Announced on Wednesday?

I'm sticking to my original prediction of this week, March 28/29th.

Yeah, if Dean says it's true, it's about as rock solid as it coming straight out of Bill's beak.

is your xbox just covered by the default 1 year warranty?

With the high number of 360's failing, it seriously is worth the money to pay at least $30 to get the extra 1 year ms service contract. it states in the terms of the contract that they will pay for all costs, including shipping. It probably isn't even a bad idea to get the 2 year, $60 service contract. It sucks that so many 360's are failing, I've been lucky so far. I have had my system for 1 year this month. I also bought it at costco as a backup warranty ;) Those elite consoles sound pretty nice...

From the service contract:

This Service Contract covers the repair or replacement of all functional parts of, and all labor necessary to maintain your Microsoft Xbox Video Game System console ("Xbox console") and your Microsoft Xbox controller originally included with your Xbox console ("Xbox controller"), including any shipping expenses necessary to complete the repair of your Xbox console or Xbox controller.

Hmm...almost makes me want to go get one. I'd like to free up my vga port on my Sammy so I can use my PC. (Component looks terrible due to overscan)

Yes, I'm definitely upgrading. If this is going to be Limited Edition like Engadget says it will sale out during launch week. Their sources say a few hundred thousand or less. I also heard they maybe throwing in some nice goodies in the box which would be nice, anything and everything helps, particularly WI-FI adapter. I would hate to use my white one with it, but I?m not going to get my hopes up on that one too much. Anyhow I?ve started building my in-store credit with my local EB games. I?ll trade in my launch premium when the time comes to offset the cost or sale it outright, it?s been good to me. I thought if the 120gig HDD is 180 I might as well throw in the towel now. I want all these new features and after trading all my stuff in it isn?t going to cost me an arm and a leg in the end. I hope MS does make these features standard for those who want one in the fall.

I was just talking to a friend of mine about such a scenario like this. He loves the arcade games and would probably be happy with a cheap Xbox he could play them on. I told him pretty much the only way to do that would be to get a 360 w/ a broken drive.
