*edit* dapunisher, i think they are brothers (if i remember from back in the day correctly).

I said three candidates. Mystique doesn't count, since ... well, as we saw, she could be anyone. :p

IMHO, Jean Grey >> Rogue >> Storm

he'll just have to concentrate really hard to keep the coating of ice around his body from melting...or instead of horizonal mambo, she could just have a go at his frozen popsicle :p

I have an extensive comics collection from my chilhood-20's and I refered to the Marvel X-Men trading cards including the Xavier's Files and Cerbro Scan sets to answer a few questions for people who enjoyed the movie and might enjoy some comics backround on some of the notable characters

1. Lady Deathstrike has no mutant powers in the comics, she has enhanced strength and reflexes, and adamantium finger-claws that are mechanical in origin hence no infusion like Wolvie which required a accelerated healing factor. She is also sheathed in alien body armor. Wolvie didn't kill her pop, but she thinks he did and underwent experiments conducted by "the evil Spiral" that "mangled her flesh and made her a cyborg killing machine" (from Xavier's Files and Cerebro Scan *Cerebro set is awesome because it has a scale for complete power rating including Energy Projection, Mental powers, Strength, Fighting ability, and Intelligence*) Lady DeathStrike is a 6 of possible 7 in fighting ability.

2. The info provided by others on the Dark Phoenix is accurate and Jean is put in suspended animation by the Phoenix when it supplanted her. A notable point is that Phoenix is Jean and Scott's daughter and one of the many refugees from the future. Her name is Rachel Summers and her energy projection and mental powers are off the scale! She is a member of Excaliber and a side note is that she makes use of her powers to hide horrible facial tattoos that scar her face.

3. I'm surprised that people still question Jackman as wolvie as I thought everyone got over it with the first movie, I was wrong. BTW Logan has a perfect 7 for fighting ability.

4. Siryn A.K.A. Theresa Rourke can fly in the comics, she is a member of X-Force, and her uncle is a super villian named Black Tom Cassidy.

5. Sabretooth may not have appeared but he's not dead, he has a healing factor very much like Logan's which makes him immune to most any drug or poison. He and Logan were part of the weaponX project, he also has the max 7 for fighting ability, and he may have just fell out of favor with Magneto because he's not the sharpest tool in the shed so to speak and could potentially turn on him at any moment, plus he makes his living as an assassin/hired gun so he may be off makin' some bank. I've read enough in the past to know they speculate he and Logan are related and someone here mentioned he's Logan's dad, I don't know if that's the relationship but there is definitely one, maybe Creed is his older bro? It would explain why they are almost identical in beastial fury, healing powers, fighting ability, intense hatred of each other (sibiling rivalry) and why Creed calls him runt and it gets Logan so bent.

6. Colossus turns into organic steel, has a strength rating of 6 and despises violence of any kind. The classic gentle giant, and he only fights hoping to eliminate evil that he may fight no more, naive but noble, hence why they say he has the soul of a poet.

7.NightCrawler was abandoned at birth a raised by a sorceress named Margali Szardoz. He has a fighting level of 5, extreme agility and athleticism, and ended up with Excaliber.

The other characters are more popular and probably need no backround provided for even most non comics fans especially since the films expanded on them more. Anyways, I thought the movie was great, I have no nitpicking to do, I felt they treated the property amazingly well and made it everything you hope a comic to film will be :) I do need to see it again though because xeno2060 drove and I slammed vodka shots before leaving, then more drinks@TGIF's bar down the street from the theaters so I missed some stuff ;)

1) That's what i thought. Lots of folks seem to think that Lady Deathstrike has a healing ability. I don't seem to recall that she did...Anyone have any comics that show this?

4) Siryn is also the daughter of Sean Cassidy AKA Banshee (hence the loud voice)

7) FYI: If i remember correctly, nightcrawler is Mystique's son.

I have an issue of Wolverine that actually shows some past history of Wolverine and Sabretooth working together as a covert ops team. There was tension then, but not outright hate like there is now. Oh well, even the comics could not keep all of their history straight, the folks making the movies have a lot to unravel.

I'd speculate that nanotech is responsible for her healing powers since she's mostly cyborg and wanted to have the abilities Logan has.

I wasn't aware of that but it would make sense and all I can say is damn! that woman is one hot MILF  :p

It doesn't really matter to me if they explore that kind of stuff because the movies are entertaining and close enough to the stoy lines to appease everyone but hardcore fanboyz. I think the issue you're referring to may be WeaponX issue#50, the one with the claws slashes through the cover I'll have to dig up one of the copies I have and see. BTW I have The Incredible Hulk issue#181 with the first full appearance of Wolverine (bought it right of the rack in 7/11 when I was a kid  ) first issues of the original mini-series and current series. I was digging Wolvie before he was very popular but I haven't bought a comic in years as I'd have to rent mini-storage if my collection grew any larger  My son inherts them when he's old enough to be responsible with them and will probably be able to pay tuition by selling some if he doesn't get a athletic or academic scholarship

BTW, I saw X2 broke the opening weekend box office record so we will get to see more cool characters emerge in this series as I'm sure they won't kill it as long as it's a cash cow. The great thing is even if an actor bails like in Batman it makes little difference as there were always new X-Men on the teams in the comics you can bring on board.

Rogue and Bobby (iceman) will be amazing characters. Bobby should have frozen the water coming from the dam and created an ice dam. he has the ability, but they chose to sacrifice Jean Grey instead, not a good choice.

I don't that Iceman is quite that strong yet to harness that much power to stop the water coming out of the damn.

that's what i assumed too.

although, didn't the water in the damn freeze for a bit before it busted open?

I don't think so. Besides, how could it? Rogue and Bobby were both in the jet.

How about if Bobby just frove a wall or wedge between the water and Jean? or froze up a column under her that would get her above the water? or some ice around/under her so she would float to the surface?

Just seems like he should have been freezing something :D

In the comic book, Kurt was rescued from a rooftop of a house in Germany that the villagers were trying to burn down after chasing him there. Professor X froze everyone in place (much as in the movie) when he did that.

he wasn't freezing time, he was getting in people's heads and making them think that he was freezing time.

yea, the movie was awesome:) esp compared to the first which i was not impressed with. they finally got the budget they needed to do the fx. the night crawler attack on the whitehouse was esp well choreographed/fx'd :)

bit sad they killed off kelly hu, be a stretch to bring her back. not sure how far back her claws retract considering she can actually bend her fingers when not extended lol :)

and yea, mistique, wow:)

and jubilee was in the first too.

and yea, paquins been in many movies, much of the time as jailbait;)

and dude, stop complaining about wolverine not being short. a short wolverine would not be a sexy guy with all da ladies fawning over him. he'd be a weirdo dwarf.

and no, tom cruise isn't short enough either, he's atleaset 5"8'

Man, if Kelly Hu was Lady Deathstrike, they have to get an even hotter chick to play psylocke!
Wonder who they're going to have lined up....

In bringing all of this stuff together, I keep on expecting to see the accompanying characters that go with it.
Are they gonna bring in Lilandra and the Shi'Ar?
Furthermore, are they gonna bring in Madelyne Pryor and Apocalypse?
And if they bring them in, is Cable soon to follow with the other new mutants?

Man, this just means that I have to crack open the comic bags and re-read all of my old X-factors and X-men.
I wonder if this movie is going to drive up demand of all my old comics...
