Hard to say, the pitchers are probably gassed this time of year, extra rest might help the arms but not for the batters as hitting has a lot to do with timing and that might get messed up with an extended layoff.

Recent MLB playoff history has been decidedly unkind to teams who sit through long layoffs.

I think the Rockies would have lost to the Sox last year even without it but you can bet they would have played a lot better with a shorter sit, however Detroit in 2006 would very likely have beaten St Louis if they wern't ice-cold.

Against Boston in particular I think Philly would have a lot of trouble under any circumstances & its too bad the schedule was setup this way.

What about the White Sox in '05. They did just fine.

So much for all of those people who pronounced Boston dead ... its still possible Tampa pulls it out of the fire but at this point I really doubt it.

And on-topic, you have to wonder how the long wait between series is going to effect the Phillies play against either AL team.

It may seem strange to say it now, but Boston was dead. If Kazmir wasn't at 111 pitches, he would've kept going. And he was getting better as he pitched. He was very effective and ace-like by the time he left. The bullpen and defense unfortunately failed then.

Tampa Bay won!
I'm so glad they pulled it off.

I'm happy for the team, they deserve it, but the 'fans' piss me off. They didn't support the team all season... They don't deserve it

Not a baseball fan at all. Didn't jump on the Rays bandwagon either. But whatever, GO RAYS!

My gf jumped on the TB bandwagon (about 3 years ago when the fued between TB and Boston started to grow), and she knows nothing about baseball. Whatever, though, she is from Florida....

3 things....

1. That ump behind the plate last night sucked in the last 2 innings.
2. TBS should be banned from sports coverage....

"What Tampa needs to do now is take it one batter at a time and not let anyone get on base..."

Hmmm...really? I thought the object was to walk as many people as possible.....

3. Coco Crisp....when you slide into the 2nd basemen, you make sure you touch the bag first....little league, man.

Oh man, what a game. I ended up going to game 1 and 6. Both games they lost. Not a chance in hell was I going to be present at last nights game. I gave up a chance on my tickets and stayed across the street at Ferg's and oh man was I glad I did! GO RAYS!

You can't blame him b/c BIG PAPI was the one running to first, he was making sure they didn't get two. Also, it's not 100% guaranteed that if he slid at the bag he would have been safe, the ump still could have made a bad call AND Papi would have been doubled at first. Why risk that?

This makes me lol every time though.

sox made a hell ofa comeback tonight.

this

The Rays had them beat down so bad they felt sorry for them.

And they also just wanted to win back in their home stadium for their fans.

Yep, that's smart baseball, just lose to the defending champs to move game 6 to your home park, yep, that's what it was alright..

Since you don't appear to be too bright with that response, I was kidding there mr. genius.

But it's against the rules to purposely miss the bag to slide into a player. Granted...he made it look like he did not purposely miss (he tagged it with his hands)...he was still way ahead of the tag.

I was almost beginning to miss Buck and McCarver.

Almost.

Anyway, congrats to the Rays. It was a good season for the Red Sox, but they couldn't pull it off at the end there. If only they hadn't started the season in Japan... (kidding)

And go Phils!

Common, they're not called Devil Rays anymore, it's just Rays. Dropping Devil is what helped them go from the worst team in the league to the best.
