TB is going to smoke the Phils, which is good so I can say at least the palehose lost to the champs :)

Not only that, but if Tamp wins, that makes the Cubs the worst team in the playoffs. Losers to losers to losers :)

And yes, Tampa is a hell of a lot better. And they are in the dominant league. Phillies were 3-15 in interleague play, batting .220 with a 4.90 era. So you can take any "dominant" stats that they have and throw them out the window.

Oh, and Tampa has homefield advantage. Say hello to 30,000 cowbells.

Yeah, when the Rays win, the ScRubs will be the only team in the MLB without a ring in the last 100 years right? hahah, yes. Goooo cubs gooooo, goooo cubs gooooo

Uh, you forgot that we'll be unveiling the 5,900 seats at the top of the trop and you left out about 6,000... just to be safe we'll call it an even 41,000 cowbell bearing fans, each bearing two cowbells (I have a stick that has 3 cowbells screwed into it... we're fuckin' cowbell nuts) so 80 something thousand cowfuckinbells in yo face biatch!

This thread is a tribute to long time Phillies fan - Perknose, of whom I have merciless teased about the quality of Philadelphia sports teams over the years that I have been acquainted with him.
Yep and all 20 of them will be tuned in for the Series.

On our one tube radio, no less!

This was said of the 2006 World Series between the Tigers and Cardinals.

I agree that the Sox/Rays are better than the Phils, but in a short series (yes in baseball terms 7 games is short when you play a 162 game season) all it takes is for a few people to get hot and the other team to get cold for you to win. There is more variance in baseball than say the NBA. So I'll give the Phils a chance; I'd be worried about their middle relief and starting pitching besides Hamels.

Yes, and Tampa Bay happens to be really hot against the defending champs.

Also, Tampa Bay sports teams own the shit out of Philly.

this

The Rays had them beat down so bad they felt sorry for them.

And they also just wanted to win back in their home stadium for their fans.

I think the Rays will finish it up Sat night. Its kinda strange that our city is in talks right now to get the Sox to bring their Spring Training here to town.

I think so too.

I didn't expect them to win all three at Fenway. But I also figured they had it wrapped up at 7-0.

Yep, that's smart baseball, just lose to the defending champs to move game 6 to your home park, yep, that's what it was alright..

After seeing the 2nd greatest MLB comeback in history on Thurs, I'm amped for this game tonight. It all rests on Beckett shutting down the Rays, because Lord knows Boston will be mashing Shields with all of that momentum.

I agree, if the Sox can manage to get a lead early then the loss on Thursday might still affect the Rays, If the Rays continue with their domination of Boston's starting pitching this will be a non-factor, IMO. I had actually gone to bed at the bottom of the seventh as I was scheduled to be @ work @ 5 so I put the TV in the bedroom on and was in the process of dozing off when Pedoria singled in that run. Just like a nudge to stay awake as I realized Papi was coming up with 2 men on. My eyes still closed I hear the mighty crack and the fenway crowd go crazy I popped up in bed like a friggin puppet..wow, just like that only a three run game, 7'th inning. went out to the LR and cranked up the big TV and of course watched it all unfold. Was 45 min. late for work fri. morning but luckily for me my boss is a Sox fan who had given up and gone to bed. Cost me about $20 in lost overtime but as I told my boss I got a felt like it was the best money I ever spent for what I got in return.

1. Shields is a pretty good pitcher
2. The rays have scored 38 runs so far in the series, their bats will probably be pretty good too. Shitty first game, but it's been on like donkey kong since.

All of what momentum? The last two innings in the last game they played? We'll be fine.

I'm grabbing my hat and heading to the game right now. Look for us, we'll be the ones carrying the huge silver shields with an S and a #33 on it. James Shields baby!

Go Rays

So much for all of those people who pronounced Boston dead ... its still possible Tampa pulls it out of the fire but at this point I really doubt it.

And on-topic, you have to wonder how the long wait between series is going to effect the Phillies play against either AL team.

Hard to say, the pitchers are probably gassed this time of year, extra rest might help the arms but not for the batters as hitting has a lot to do with timing and that might get messed up with an extended layoff.

Recent MLB playoff history has been decidedly unkind to teams who sit through long layoffs.

I think the Rockies would have lost to the Sox last year even without it but you can bet they would have played a lot better with a shorter sit, however Detroit in 2006 would very likely have beaten St Louis if they wern't ice-cold.

Against Boston in particular I think Philly would have a lot of trouble under any circumstances & its too bad the schedule was setup this way.
