How can they take a goal away and then not explain what it was? I watched the whole game from the 4th minute on and even the two announcers for the game were talking about the horrible officiating. SLV/US players go in to challenge a ball US player gets tripped up and falls, no foul, but if SLV player gets tripped up and falls, free kick. This ref should be fired.

I am recording ALL the games 😛

Unfortunately I do not possess a dvr.

So much wrongness on page 47 of this thread 😀

US definitely got robbed on that goal. But, got crazy lucky with that goal against england too, so, I guess it equals out...a TIE if you will.

While I see where you're coming from that is not an apt comparison. The draw with england was given to us by green's mistake while today victory was snatched away by poor officiating. If the fault was with one of our players I might have agreed with you, but it was purely the ineptitude of the ref.

Page 47? 😕 This is page 14.

Due to default posts/page. I tried switching to the 100/page before, but it seemed so weird, partially because I am used to judging thread length by number of pages. I'm comfortable with the default setting.

Actually I think I am right.

If we draw we have 3 points.

Slovenia already has 4 and would advance so they can win v England and it doesn't affect us.

Algeria has zero points so a draw vs us and England gives them 2 points.

England has 1 point so a draw vs Algeria and a loss v Slovenia gives them only 2 points.

Hence we advance with 3 points. Not going to happen, but it is a possibility.

I was talking about this part:

If England wins tonight though then we need a victory and a Slovenia loss to move on.

That's not true. If England wins today they'll have 4 points and Slovenia already has 4 points. If we beat Algeria we'll have 5 points. If England or Slovenia wins their last game, then whichever team loses will still have 4 points, and we'll have 5. If they draw it would be a 3-way tie with 5 points.

So to correct what you said, if England wins today then we need a victory and someone needs to lose the England-Slovenia game, or they need to draw with a final goal differential that is favorable to the US (i.e. we beat Algeria by 2, or we score 2 more goals in our last game than Slovenia, or some other scenario that results in our winning one of the tie breakers).

Precisely!

Neh that's a good point. Don't get me wrong I think the US got robbed of a goal, obviously.

Another reason I hate soccer. Because of such little scoring, thanks to offsides, soccer, more than any other sport, is particularly vulnerable to poor officiating. Refs just gave games away today on the world stage.
