Arizona is the #1 seed in the NFC with an 8-1 record but with the loss of QB Carson Palmer and with division games against Seattle (twice), @Santa Clara, and @St Louis in addition to tough games against Detroit and KC Arizona could drop from the #1 seed after Week 10 to watching the playoffs from home. The #1 and #2 seeds are wide open for Philly, Detroit, Dallas, Green Bay, and even Seattle. And yet any one of these teams could with a bad stretch could lose their division and find themselves out of the playoffs while a 7-9 NFC South team squeaks in.

I don't think Arizona will fall off that much with Stanton. Palmer was already out this year and they kept on winning. But I agree that they have a tough stretch of games. I can see them getting the 4 wins they will probably need to make the playoffs, but it wouldn't surprise me if they went 2-5 down the stretch even if Palmer was healthy.

While Seattle and SF don't necessarily look great right now, I don't think anyone wants to see them in the playoffs. Its a shame they both won't get in this year.

Well, Seattle is 6-3, so they have a decent shot of getting in. If Arizona falls and SF gets on a streak (which seems to be more likely than the other), they could beat them out. With the exception of Seattle twice and Arizona, they have a pretty easy schedule. NYG, Washington, and Oakland are wins, and the Chargers are pretty much a coin flip at this point. That would put them at 9 wins and if they split with Seattle and Arizona this year, they end up with a good chance.

Arizona, on the other hand, could easily go 2 and 5 and be finished. Detroit is going to be tough, as well as Seattle twice and KC. That leaves SF at the end of the year in Levi, both of which might be fighting for their lives. I think, in a win or go home game, SF would be my pick.

I was skeptical before of SF's chance, but with Arizona losing Palmer, I say it a 50/50 now. The NFC West is up in the air. Seattle has a very tough stretch of games, Arizona has a pretty tough stretch and lost their QB, and SF has an easier schedule and is getting some people back. Smith returning should give them a nice boost on the pass rush.

That is assuming a second team can come out of the NFC West. The NFC East looks to be producing two and the NFC North might give us two as well. We certainly don't have to worry about the NFC South doing that this year.

I am assuming the two wildcards are coming from the NFC East and NFC North. Or Arizona does the minimum and gets in. I don't think Dallas will collapse unless Romo gets hurt again, and Philly seems fine with Sanchez. GB will be solid, and Detroit is winning the games they normally lose, so maybe they turned the corner. I think 11-5 will be the minimum to get in this year. There are a few games this week that already seem to have playoff implications.

LOL, that wasn't my detailed analysis just pointing out how close the margins are from the top seed to falling out of the playoffs--I think Denver does win the AFC West and gets a bye. But you never know!

I think Seattle beats Arizona twice which evens their losses and gives Seattle the edge in a tie breaker. Arizona has to play Santa Clara week 17 plus Detroit and KC.

The stats indicate Stanton is a big step back from Palmer. Arizona has already been winning on persistence and a few lucky bounces (nothing wrong with that!) so I think the downgrade at QB, injuries, and playing 5 play off quality teams (Seattle twice, Santa Clara, KC, Detroit) in their lass 7 games could net them a 3-4 record down the stretch (a respectable 11-5) but could be 2-5 if things get ugly at QB. Arizona's best bet, as you noted, is they have Seattle and Santa Clara beating the snot out of each other twice. If Arizona can beat SF once or split with Seattle and find 2 more wins (@St Louis, @Atlanta, KC, or Detroit) they are set for the play offs and probably the division.

Arizona, IMO, really needs to split with Seattle or hope the wheels on the bus fall off. Seattle for their part needs to win 5-of-7 and sweep Arizona (so a loss at KC and at SF?) How mad will people be if two 10-6 teams don't make the playoffs but a 7-9 Saints do? Especially with strength of schedule in some divisions making them a blood bath (i.e. like SEC teams knocking eachother down.)

Should I start a new thread for this?

Hell no, perfect thread for that stuff.

As good as Dem Iggles D has been for long stretches of time in games, I fear Aaron Rodgers will simply overwhelm them.
Totally agree Rodgers will likely pick them apart, but the game is really important for both teams, and this game could make the loser really low seeded or perhaps miss the playoffs all together.

People complained when Seattle made it at 7-9 one year, but then they won their playoff game and it shut people up. If NO makes it at 7-9, they would host in the Superdome, which is as good of home field advantage as it gets.

Just came across this, angry Bears fans have issued death threats to coach Trestman's daughters after another blow-out loss to GB. Bear's fan's now have sunken to a lower point than Philly, yea, I'm sure he goes over the game plans with his kids every week.. http://deadspin.com/twitter-users-harass-marc-trestmans-daughters-after-bea-1657009542

I really hate this characterization of Philadelphia sports fans. Plenty of fans in other locales have done plenty of boneheaded and shitty stuff.

Kansas City Royals fans physically attack first base coach Tom Gamboa.

Red Sox fans sending death threads to Bill Buckner.

Yankee fan throwing a knife at Wally Joyner.

Yes, Philadelphia pelted Santa (a drunk guy in a Santa suit taken from the stands). NY Giants fans pelted with ice blocks, and knocked unconscious, SD Chargers equipment manager Sid Brooks.

Yes, Philadelphia cheered Michael Irvin's injury. A shameful act. Is it worse than cheering Texan fans cheering Matt Schaub's injury? Or KC fans cheering Matt Cassel's injury? They were cheering that their own QB got injured.

Niners and Raiders game at Candlestick Park. Melees. People getting beaten unconscious in the restroom. Shootings in the parking lot. And it was only a pre-season game. And they call Philadelphia dangerous?

The list can go on and on.

Word. They did a lot of weeding out, first with the court right in the old Vet during the games, and then with who they allowed season tickets to in the move to the Linc, something that happened WAY under the radar, but which did happen.

Still, those jamokes never bothered me that much. Working class idgits from Kensington and the boyz from Second Street you see shirtless and drunk in the middle of winter along Broad Street for the Mummers Parade, with their hard-faced, now pudgy broads still thinking they've got it, undulating in the aisles for the crowd. Eagles games were one of the absolute highlights of their lives.

This slice of Philly was never exactly known for their exquisite manners.

Sure, they'd go overboard harassing those who didn't know better than to show up in Giants or Cowboys unis. There's no denying that's not really acceptable in any truly civilized public venue.

They'd pelt those guys with insults and the occasional beer shower and a few drunken haymakers, if it came to that, but nobody got beaten to fucking death in the parking lot, as has happened more than once elsewhere.

Not perfect, just saying. <shrug>

RG is referenced in the titles because he is on vacation. The reason they don't seem funny to you is because you are clueless. For those of you who don't like the titles, I have prepared a statement:

Fuck you. If you have any questions you can direct them to that brick wall over there.

PS: If you still don't like the titles feel free to make the threads yourself.

nwhahahahhahahaha

Ain't so easy is it? I tried telling you the title is the hardest part of these threads.

That was the most BULLLSHIT DPI call on Buffalo there. Let's change the league name from NFL to NRL (National Referee League).

Fair enough, good point, there are douchebags in every city it seems. Buckner got a raw deal IMO, dude played most of the season on a bum ankle and his RBI production was a major contributor for the Sox to even get to the WS, so he miss-played one ball that took a funky hop, there was still a game seven and the Sox got beat to lose the series.

Rams were playing PM and the Denver passing game really well but somehow Sanders got left alone mid-field and PM just lobbed him the ball for an easy TD, 13-7 Rams at the half.
