You can add China to that list. Iraq has Chinese anti-ship missles.

Getting messy in Basra

"Britain's ITN news network is reporting that thousands of people are rampaging through the Basra streets. Dozens of buildings are reportedly on fire as the predominantly Shiite population is in revolt against Saddam's minority Sunni rulers."

this is what we've been waiting for I think; but with all the BS the Iraqi's have pulled I'd be very careful

I would suggest this is very likely, those two groups have had their share of problems regardless of the government in place. I wish the Shiite's felt so strongly for the US but I will gladly accept the fact they don't. As long as they continue to hate and fight Sunni's and the opportunity the regime has given them to inflict their own crimes of hate against them, they are ok in my book....

500 Medina(best republican guard divison) KIA in current, ongoing ground battles with the 3rd Infantry Divison. Gotta wonder how much our Wart Hogs, Apaches, and other aircraft took out yesterday/this morning.

Correction: It wasnt the medina divison. It was Uday Hussiens nutjob divison(forgot their name). Its 40,000 strong but its not clear how many the 3rd Infantry divison is taking on at this current time, but 500 or more are dead.

Why are they arguing about the need to comply with the UN???? Their arguement, while a legitimate one, is drowned out by their own hypocrisy. I have a few suggestions for the emergency UN meeting.
First bring these blatant violaters to the mat, and make sure they don't get the opportunity to profit from rebuilding efforts. They have already made their money......

No wonder they didn't want us pokng around Saddam's stockpiles....

My solution Tear gas the whole fvcking lot, tie up up and interview with interpreter and find out who is who.
Apologize to the real civilians give em some MRE and water and send them on their merry way. No hard feelings

So what you're saying is... the US should use chemical weapons?

I think you using the term chemical weapons as meaning the same thing as WMD. Is tear gas considered WMD? I don't think so unless the police is guilty of using WMD.... I think tear gas would be valid and even more humain as it is non-lethal.

The link to what, the french mirage deals are well publicized, so are the Russian cruise misilles found recently, news of this arrest and details will spread soon enough.

Where is your constant demand for proof when it comes to Saddam? At the least the whole world agreed he should have to provide proof....

Seems as though the US via FOX News destroyed the TV station in Iraq.

w00t!!

They dropped Fox News on the Iraqi TV station? Talk about killing two birds with one stone. ;)

That was low... I like Fox News but found that funny. Anyway, glad they finally took that out.... now they need to broadcast what the truth is.

Awesome, hit them with an experiment EMP weapon, knocked them off the air.

FYI - MSNBC has confirmed the uprising in Basra

If you want your post to be taken seriously, please provide a link. Don't expect people here to just take your word for it.

BTW, I just checked the MSNBC site and this story is nowhere to be found. Personally, I'm very skeptical of this story as the Fox report was very vague and just sounds like more propaganda.

If you want your posts to not sound like you're a complete idiot, try opening yer eyes. It's all over every news channel now. moron...

from Sky News:

http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30000-1085095,00.html

The largest battle of the ground war in Iraq has broken out just south of Baghdad, reports say.

Up to 300 Iraqi troops have died in fierce fighting around the cities of Najaf and Karbala without the loss of a single Allied troop, according to the Pentagon.

The battle began when Iraqi troops launched a huge night time attack on the US Seventh Cavalry, possibly trying to take advantage of poor visibility due to severe sandstorms in the area.

The casualty figure, if confirmed, would be the largest reported Iraqi loss of life in a single engagement in the six days of war.

A Penatgon offical said: "Apparently ground forces tried to hit some of our guys with rocket propelled grenades.

"They did damage a couple of pieces of our gear but we've had no reports of casualties on our side.

"But apparently there are some reports that we may have killed quite a few of them. Estimates differ. Some say 200-300. Some say 150."

It is not known whether the Iraqi troops involved in the battle were regular army units that had moved down to that area to fight Allied troops, members of President Saddam Hussein's irregular Fedayeen paramilitaries, or loyalists of Saddam's Ba'ath Party.

Ok, if I'm an Iraqi fighter and I see 150-500 of my fellow soldiers get killed and we don't kill even 10 of theirs (much less 1) I think I'd realize we were overmatched and probably retreat or give up....that's just suicide. Luckily for me, I'm not an Iraqi fighter.....go US and coalition forces!!!!

Yes, also Saddam's Feddayen (sp?) are dressing as US soldiers, accepting the surrender of regular Iraqi military and then executing them (real nice). I wonder if that will end up on al jazeera?

you get the impression some people don't even pay attention..

this thread's PRIMARY purpose is to post info on the war for those not able to follow along, you will see things here quite often as soon as the first report, takes time to corroborate and eventually get to the rest of the media. Remember there are "em*@($@ed" reporters who have immediate access to spread their story while the rest of the media catches up......

The story of the uprising has been going on all day, I have personally listened to or watched a half dozen independent media outlets discussing this occurence. There have numerous posts here regarding the matter, none of which, save yours, questions the validity. If you can't take the time to keep yourself on top of things, don't question those that do......
